Scotland ,Kingsbarnes and the train?

Family of 5,two have tee times at Kingsbarnes at 11;40 am ,Wed Sept 12.Another family member wants to take the train first class from Edinburgh to London that late afternoon, how long from Kingsbarnes to the train station, should I buy tickets in advance? If I miss the train, can I just catch the next with the same tickets? Thanks for your help.

Do you mean only one person is taking the train? Not knowing the rest of your plans - I'd probably not drive into Edinburgh. You can take the train from Leuchars to Edinburgh to catch the London bound train. So the golfers can golf, and the one taking the train can take the train - w/o inconveniencing each other.

OR - do you mean all of you are taking the train??

Just not clear on what you are trying to do . . . .

Sorry about the confusion,we are all taking the train and will need to return a rental car to the airport. How long for the train ride?

If I understand the question correctly, you want to play a round of golf, drive to Edinburgh airport, return return rental car and then taxi to Edinburgh Waverly train station to catch a train to London? I don't really know how long the round of golf would take, but I think you should count on a minimum 2hrs 30 min for the transfer from Kingsbarnes to Edinburgh Waverly. Perhaps more as this is a working day with late afternoon rush hour traffic around Edinburgh. I would guess you could make the 7 pm train, which gets into London a little after midnight, and is the last train of the day, except for the overnight sleeper. The next earlier train is at 5:30 pm, which I don't thnk you could make unless you are off the course by 3 pm.

In any event, if you buy a cheap advance purchase ticket, you are restricted to travelling on the train that you are ticketed for. If you buy the much more expensive open ticket, you can travel on any train you want.

The sleeper departs 11:40 arriving Euston station at 7 am. Mandatory reservations. Check out "First Scot Rail" for details.

As mentioned above - Leuchars is the nearest train station.
