Scotland Itineray help

My husband and I will be in Scotland for a short trip and we have decided to go to Edinburg and then train to Glasgow.

Day 1 arrive Friday April 18th at 10am - bus into town and see if we can check in or at least drop our luggage. Go and see the sites on Royal street and maybe the Castle?
(we have decided not to get a car based on other comments about how difficult parking can be)

Day 2 Saturday April 19th - take the train to St. Andrew - (husband is a huge golf fan) walk around and see the area and head back to Edinburgh. Not sure how long this jouney will take??

Day 3 Sunday April 20th - any ideas what we could do on this day?

Day 4 train to Glasgow in the am (My husband has work outside of the city) - wander around the city not really sure what we should not miss here?

Day 5 I will be on my own and perhaps visit a museum.

Any opinions on this itinerary? Looking for suggestions on any must see's that I have missed and to help fill in some more specifics for Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Thanks!!!

just two very quick comments -

1) Since your husband will not be playing the Old Course - I definitely recommend going to St Andrews on Sun. instead of Sat. There is no play on Sunday and the course becomes a free, open city park and one can walk the full 18 holes if you wish.

Makes it a lot easier to see than on the Saturday w/ the course fully booked w/ foursomes.

No "Royal Street" - it is the "Royal Mile" and is made up of several bits w/ different street names.

How much time should I allow for St.
Andrews trip?

Thank you for the heads up on the Sunday!!

all day - there is a LOT to see/do in St Andrews other than the golf courses. A fascinating castle, the Cathedral ruins, the wonderful beaches, golf museum, good restaurants etc.

You will take a train from central Edinburgh to Leuchars - then a local bus or a taxi the 7-ish miles to St Andrews.

While in Glasgow, I'd recommend a visit to the Burrell Collection. This is one of my favorite museums anywhere. It's easier to take a taxi, but there is bus service.
