SCOTLAND itinerary - please help with suggestions! THANK YOU!!

Jump to last reply

My husband and I will be travelling to Scotland in late May/early June before we head down to the Lake District and then onto London. I am somewhat stuck with parts of the Scotland itinerary and would appreciate any suggestions/comments/advice.

Our itinerary for the Scotland part of our trip is as follows:
Day 1:
Fly from Heathrow to Edinburgh. Arriving in the afternoon. After checking into our accommodation will go to the New Town for a walkabout and then have dinner (have not done research on where to have dinner).

Day 2:
Explore Edinburgh Old Town.

Day 3:
EDIN to BROADFORD (Isle of SKYE)
Get to EDIN airport and pick up a rental car (Pick up at 10am?). Drive to STIRLING (M9) (Any way to go to Culross as well? Not if it is too much of a detour). Then another 2km to CAUSEWAYHEAD and then continue on the A9, just before DUNBLANE turn right and follow the B8033. Take a signposted road on the left into the village to see the cathedral and the Leighton Library. Return to the B8033 and turn left to join the A9 and head towards PERTH. Lunch in Pitlochry? (See the fish ladder here?)
After lunch, drive to BROADFORD to check into accommodation (not yet booked). (Arrive around 6pm?)

Day 4:
Explore the Isle of SKYE.
Head to the TROTTERNISH Peninsula. Sligachan (view of Red and Black Cullins) –– Portree ––Old Man of Storr –– Lealt Falls –– Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls –– Staffin & the Quirang –– Uig –– Duntulum Castle ruins –– Portree and back to Broadford. (Any other sights we should/could include, e.g. Fairy Glen?)
Would this take a full day? Any suggestions for a nice place to stop for lunch? E.g. I read online that the Harbour View Restaurant, Cullins Hills Hotel, or Cafe Ariba were suggested as good places to stop for lunch.
Overnight in (?Broadford?)

Day 5:
Check out of accommodation in (Broadford?), –– Eilean Donan –– Plockton then drive to ?? OBAN??

***I am stuck for Days 5 and 6.*** What places to explore, which route to take (so as not to repeat or backtrack on where we will be going to on Day 9) Where to overnight on Day 5?

What about this route: drive past GLENCOE, take the A838 to OBAN, check in and leave luggage in accommodation, then take the A816 and then B844 to EASDALE (to see the Bridge over the Atlantic), then back on B844 to continue on A816 and then A83 to get to the CRARAE GARDENS, continue on A83 to AUCHINDRAIN (open air folk museum), then to INVERARAY (large parish church in middle of main road, Inveraray Castle), the A819 to see the Falls of Lora in LOCH ETIVE and then back to OBAN for the night. Is this doable? Any other suggestions on what to do/see?

Day 6:
OBAN (or where-ever we spent the night on Day 5) –– TARBERT (near KENNACRAIG) We have booked accommodation in Tarbert, where we will be staying the nights of Day 6 and 7. Any suggestions for the route to take and what to see before we reach our accommodation in Tarbert?

Day 7:
Take the 7am ferry to the Isle of ISLAY. Ferry tickets booked. Arrive at Port Ellen and do a tour of the LAPHROAIG distillery (Hubby is a fan, and this is his pilgrimage). Tour finishes around noon. Our departure ferry is from Port Askaig (northern ISLAY), so will have time to have lunch, drive around before we take the 5pm ferry back to KENNACRAIG and overnight in Tarbert.

Day 8:
TARBERT –– LOCH LOMOND
***Stuck again on route to take, things to see :-( ***

Maybe start in GARTOCHARN, then take A82 to LUSS (picturesque village), then continue onto KILLIN to see Falls of Douchart, then A827 to KENMORE. After this, backtrack on the A827 until we reach A85 on the left, then continue on the A84, turn left on A821. After passing the Trossachs Hotel, follow signs on the right to LOCH KATRINE. After that return to A821 to get to ABERFOYLE.

Question: Can cars turn right into the A831 to get to LUSS (assuming we book a place to stay the night in Luss). Alternatively can we come down the A821 onto A81 and then turn right to get to A811 to get to Luss via Gartocharn?

Any other suggested route please?

Thinking of staying in LUSS for overnight accommodation, but have booked nothing yet.

Day 9:
LOCH LOMOND to GLASGOW (1 hour's drive?). The rest of the day will be spent exploring Glasgow. Have not begun looking for accommodation, but may probably book a hotel so that we can drop off our luggage and park the car before exploring Glasgow on foot.

Day 10:
GLASGOW to the LAKE DISTRICT.

I apologize if the itinerary seems confusing in parts! I would very much appreciate any help and thank you for reading this!!
