janisj, we try to avoid 1 nighters - but in terms of distance to Skye, is Glencoe both 1) a good place to spend some time and 2) a sort of mid-point? I guess the alternative would be to make a day of driving to Skye from Callander (through Glencoe?) and then 3 days in sky and 3 near Inverness.
Is there another route from Callander to Skye that would make a better day trip? You are a FONT of information! Alice |
I avoid one nighters too. But in this case there is a TON to see/do with Callander as a base . . . and a TON to see/do on Skye. But w/o serious mountain trekking there is not a ton to see/do at Glencoe.
I'd either stay one night night in Glencoe (It is gorgeous) - or I'd get a very early start, see Killin, Glencoe and Glenfinnan but continue on to Skye for 3 nights and add the extra night near Inverness. One nighters aren't optimal - but sometimes doing so is best for the itinerary as a whole. |
I agree - we've done one-nighters when we had to, to break up a long drive or to see something special a little out of the way.
I will consult with my traveling companion (husband) who will most certainly say he doesn't like one nighters, but I should do whatever I think. (fyi, he doesn't do a bit of travel planning, he cracks open a travel book for the first time on the plane - I truly believe he thinks our trips work out so nicely by magic!). Thanks again, Alice |
