Scotland Itinerary Advice

We are planning on going to Scotland the end of August, beginning of September. Flights are booked into Inverness and out of Edinburgh. We will have a car and like to drive. We also like scenery, walking, hiking, meeting new people. I was thinking of this:
1. Fly in and stay Inverness
2. Durness
3. Durness
4. Torridon
5. Skye
6. Skye
7. …
8. Mull
9. Mull
10. Oban
11. …
12. …
13. Edinburgh
14. Edinburgh
15. Fly home

Was wondering about days 7, 11, 12. Is Skye to Mull too long for one days drive? Should I stop somewhere in between or add a day to either island. Should I add another day in Oban as I would like to visit Glencoe from there too. Day 11 and 12 stay somewhere near the Trossach's National Park? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. The more I research the more confused I get. Thank you.

Day 7 there is no reason to break your journey unless you just want to. From Skye you can cross Moidart and Morvern and take the Lochaline > Fishnish ferry to Mull. I've driven that route 3 or 4 time one direction or the other and it is only about a 2 hour drive plus photo stops. (Do not go the long way around via Ft William/Oban)

That would give you an extra day on either Mull or Skye and eliminate the need to stay in Oban. You can take the ferry from Craignure to Oban and then head to the Trossachs. I'd stay somewhere like Callander 3 nights, or 1 night in Glencoe and 2 nights in Callander.

OR -- you could stay 3 nights on Skye and 3 on Mull, then 2 in Callander.

Janisj, thanks for the tip on driving to Mull. I think we will do that. I will look into Callender. Do days 2-4 look ok? Thank you for your time.

Days 2 to 4 looks fine. Total car time Inverness > Durness > Torridon is only about 6.5 hours so easy for the two travel days.

If it was me I might revers the allotment -- 1 day for Durness and 2 for Torridon but perhaps you have a reason for splitting it the way you have.

1) the drive from Inverness to Durness takes less time than Durness to Torridon and 2) there is a lot to see between Durness and Torridon

(This is all assuming you meant to drive up via Lairg and Loch Shin and not the looooong way around via Wick and Thurso)

Janisj I think you were reading my mind. I was considering spending just one night in Durness (or maybe even skipping it and heading directly to the Torridon, Gairloch, Laide area). Might be able to base there for a few days and day trip without the drive up to Durness. I know we will be missing some things but it seems like the Gairloch/Torridon area has a lot to offer. We were originally going to drive around from Wick to Thurso but I scrapped that idea last week. I would rather see more in a smaller area. Thanks for your input.
