Scotland in September

Can anyone tell me if that is a good time, weatherwise, to visit Scotland? We are considering a week in Edinburgh and area in mid September. Thanks in advance.

Yes, in general. We can't guarantee the weather at any time of the year, but you can get great Indian summers.

We always go in September. There are fewer tourists, the schools are back, the weather is usually mild and the MIDGIES have usually ceased their fiendish activities.

As the others said - Sept is a great time to visit Scotland. June is my very favortie month because of the amazingly long days - but Sept is a close 2nd.

I'm going this to Scotland this Sept too, first part of the month. I'm particularly interested in the post about the midge. I'll be on the Isle of Mull and I've been warned about these pesky creatures in the western isles. Do you think early September is still midge season? If so, any recommendations for repellent? I've read Avon Skin So Soft repellent works well despite it not being sold specifically for this insect.
