Scotland. Fort william?

I am looking to do some scenic hikes in the Fort William area? Can anyone reccomend one that is not the touristy climb up Ben Nevis?
Also, to do this I would probably stay in Fort William. Is it really not worth doing that?
Jamie
There are scenic hikes to do all over the northwest, the whole area is solid scenery.Fort William is not a popular place to stay, you can go up the ben & stay elsewhere.Best plan is to pick a place you like then find a good hike nearby.

Totally agree with zippo. There are some great hills to the north west of Fort William. Spean Bridge and Roy Bridge have lots of climbery places to stay

What sort of a hike are you looking for?

HI
I'm looking for a somewhat challenging route with great view. The tour that i am doing passes through Fort william so it had to be in that area.
jamie

OK, on the assumption that you know what you're doing, I have some suggestions:-

1.Sgurr na Ciche and Garbh Chioch Mhor. You reach these from Spean Bridge (about 5 miles north of Fort William) It's a 9 hour walk if you're reasonably fit and includes some scrambling. Views over Knoydart and to the Cuiilins

2. The Easains. This walk starts in Glen Spean and is 6 1/2 hours, and less difficult. You can use the train to complete the loop

3. Most difficult- The Grey Corries. 10 1/2 hours long ridge walk. East of Ben Nevis. Starts at Spean Bridge. Lots os scrambling if you want it. Graded (out of 5) 4 for grade and terrain, 2 for navigation and 5 for seriousness.

There are others- you could do the Aonachs or the Carn Mor Dearg arete or the Ring of Steall.

If you have time, get hold of Ralph Storer's book "100 Best Routes on Scottish Mountains" and coose your pick
