Scotland elopement/runaway wedding

Looking for insight on elopement/runaway weddings in Scotland. We will be there in January and will be staying in Edinburgh, so looking for something in town (or nearby surrounding area). We're a late 20 couple from USA, looking to stay under £500 for the ceremony. Just us two, no guests. We understand and have researched the legal requirements for wedding registration in Scotland. We'd like any help with venues/locations - no religious affiliation but not opposed to a church location. Thanks in advance!

This is about a year old and the price just a bit higher than your target, but might be worth exploring, someone who lives there who plans these things (starting at 600).

What are you going to do for witnesses?

What, elopement in Scotland and but not in Gretna Green?

Greg's right - you MUST elope to Gretna Green!!!

You don't necessarily need to bring your own witnesses - anyone off the street is legally acceptable.

Remember the legality for two foreigners (non-EEA citizens) to marry in UK including Scotland. You both need a special visa called marriage visit visa, which you must get before travelling to UK, and there is a waiting period of 28 days after giving notice of marriage before you can tie the knot.

Gretna makes no sense.

It has some romantic attachment for English people who in the past would "come over the border" for a quickie wedding.

There still is a whole business around the concept, all very tacky.

It's the least attractive town in Dumfries and Galloway, with out question.

Have you BEN in Stranraer, Britishcaicos?

>BEEN<

You can easily get married for £500 if a minister marries you. They can do that anywhere. I do worry about the legalities, tho'

>>Have you BE(E)N in Stranraer, Britishcaicos?<<

My guess is yes many times considering where he lives . . . ;)

BritishCaicos Sep 25th, 2015 10:55 AM

OK.

Gretna is second.

Rockcliffe is bottom of the list of least attractive towns in Dumfries and Galloway.

Where's the OP BTW?

>>Where's the OP BTW?<<

s/he has only returned to one of the threads and that was right after starting it . . . so may be a matter of a new member not knowing how to find their threads :(

Which is what makes it hilarious and ironic. :D I would do it if I weren't already married.

It would also help if you read a certain sub-class of the romance genre a lot when you were 12 years old.

Gretna is Scotland's answer to Vegas for getting married. Exactly the reason people get married at either location is the tackiness of it all.
