Scotland delayed.....

I should be wandering around the Isle of Skye RIGHT NOW, in the middle of a lovingly planned two week trip. Instead, I am hobbling around popping Advils. (Who ever heard of a melanoma on the bottom of the foot?!) The docs say it will be Sept before I am back in fighting form. For you seasoned Scotland travelers, is the second half of Sept still a good time to go? We had planned to go to Edinburgh, Aberdeen, the Isle of Skye and the Loch Lomond area. We like the outdoors and plan to do some hiking in addition to sightseeing in Edinburgh and castle country.
I am think we should just go rather than wait. Maybe the upside will be fewer tourists?
I realize the "best" time to go is very subjective, but I would really welcome some informed opinions.
Thanks in advance.

What a shame to have to postpone your trip. I know you are disapointed, but thank goodness you discovered the melanoma. I had one removed from my back at a very early stage ten years ago with no further problem.

We had to cancel our trip to Rome last December because of an unexpected root canal. We are going to England in a week! Hope you will be able to go on your trip as soon as possible. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your plans being messed up.

But don't worry about going in Sept - it is a really lovely time in Scotland. Anything you can do in May you can do in Sept - and it could even be a bit warmer then (or cooler as well - no guarantees weather-wise)

And some gardens are even better in the early Autumn.

We've been to Scotland three times in October and think it is perfect. Of course we like it cool, but...unless it rains, which it could easily,,it would great and invigorating for hiking. The crowds are a LOT less, places to stay perhaps cost less. YOur trip sounds wonderful. You will now have more time to read up on and plan your trip.

I wish you the very best in your recovery. Take care.

It will be fine in September ( well, as fine as it ever is:))

and if you get to Aberdeen, give us a bell and we'll "show you a good time!!"

As a consolation, the weather is not at it's best this week. May or late September/early October is my favourite time to visit Scotland - we have had some lovely weather in September, though, as always, there are no guarantees. Hope you are soon fighting fit.
