Scotland Clothes to Wear

Know to pack in layers. If we head up into the Highlands as well as Glasgow and Edinburgh, what colors, weights etc. of clothes are appropriate. Have several dark pants planning to take but as a Floridian, we are very much into summer colors at this time of year. Are jeans taboo?

If today's anything to go by, bring your winter woolies.

Wear what you like- definitely jeans are OK. Summer colours are fine too. (Fleeces might be more approriate, but)

If you are going to the Highlands buy some insect repellent and maybe a midge veil. Make sure that you have clothes that can keep you covered. I have just returned and the little ****s were beginning to hatch out. I have the red lumps to prove it! Apart from that, the Highlands are very beautiful at this time of year.

Thanks for thoughts. I couldn't find this message so sent another one. Ignore. Off to get the insect repellant and will surely keep covered. Bought an all purpose jacket today with a linging---Quite a feat for Florida in May--but wondered if it would be too bulky and better to pack a heavy sweater and even a folding poncho (for rain) rather than this heavy jacket with hood.
Noticed in London that dark clothes abounded in the city but lighter colors were seen in Bath and Canterbury etc. Does that also apply in Scotland--big city versus outlying areas?

Hope you read this before you run off to the store. DON'T buy insect repellant at home for this trip. First of all you may very well not see a single midge, but if you do, the repellants available in Scotland will be better for discouraging midges.

Sheila, when I was at a friend's cottage in Wales. I astounded everyone by jumping back on the stuffed chair I was sitting because a huge flying insect about 7 inches fly near me that looked like our biting mosquito. My friend had to explain my fright. What was it?

Goodness only knows. I'd have left the country.
