Would like to know the best castle to stay in for the night in any part of Scotland.

Take a look at www.traquair.co.uk. Traquair House in Southern Scotland claims to be the oldest house still inhabited by the original family with all sorts of ties to royalty. They rent out a couple of very charming rooms as B&B. We stayed there for a couple of nights about three years ago and enjoyed every minute - in particular, sitting down for drinks with the Maxwell-Stuarts and their assorted dogs at the end of the day in a room shown to the public during the day from behind a velvet rope! There are far more luxurious places to stay in Scotland - but few that can boast such close ties to history.

I have not stayed there, but have heard many positive remarks about castle Stuart in Inverness, which has it's own webpage. <BR>Don't know how long you're planning to stay, but the National Trust rents out several castles, on a weekly basis int he summer, for three days stays otherwise.

Hi Kelly, <BR> I love Scotland very much and it is one of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited. Castles can be a wonderful accommodation, but they can also be not so great. <BR> Dalhousie Castle near Edinburgh is a very nice accommodation. I have not stayed there, but I've seen it during one of my visits to Edinburgh. <BR> I stayed at a castle near Loch Lomond called Culcreuch Castle and it was not so great. The tariff was extremely high and the service was not good. The rooms were quite shabby too. <BR> Wherever you stay, make sure you do your homework. Scotland has some of the most wonderful places to stay, but just like anywhere else there are some duds. Have a great trip!

Kelly <BR> <BR>There are lots and it would be difficult to choose. In this neck of the woods (Aberdeenshire) there are three close by..Meldrum House, Pittodrie House, and Leslie Castle <BR> <BR>Leslie would be the most "castley" but I think they cater for tourists ( and American tourists at that!) Pittodrie and meldrum both have real tower houses at the core. I prefer Pittodrie for location and ambience. <BR>It can be found at www.macdonald-hotels.co.uk; and I think meldrum has its own web site too. It's not to hand tho'

It is a bit pricy, but it is a real castle. The Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle is located in Dornoch in the Highlands. Approximately 45 miles north of Inverness. Have a look at www.carnegieclub.co.uk
