Scotland Car Rental

We'll be renting a car in Scotland this fall. Can anyone comment on rental agencies? Europcar and Auto Europe come up on web searches. Thank you.

There's always Hertz, seemingly no matter where you go.

Check them out, as I use them on holiday throughout Europe.

We rented from Enterprise out of Edinburgh. We had a brand new Toyota Auris Hybrid that I wanted to pack in my luggage and take home. Enterprise was very accomodating and highly recommended!

Auto Europe is a broker - they don't have any cars of their own to rent out.

Arnold Clark is a locally owned chain that I have used successfully in the past. Get quotes direct from Arnold Clark and from Celtic Legend - http://www.celticlegend.co.uk/car/index.htm
Celtic Legend were cheaper when I booked.

If you are American, rent from an American company so that if anything fouls up later, you can get recompense. Europcar is reputable and acceptable too. Local outfits won't care about ever receiving your business again.

Enterprise Rent-a-car has always worked for me. They offer a free-pick up and drop off service, and their prices were always the cheapest I've found when comparing it to other more well-known companies.

Ditto renting from an American company. Auto europe and Europcar have terrible reviews if you google them. I'm renting from Avis which I thought was a good deal. Look for discount codes too!

I've done well with Enterprise. However, keep this in mind: If you are relying on your credit card to cover insurance, be warned! Most coverage tops out at $50,000 value for the vehicle. It is very possible that your rental car will be such. Granted, when we rented in 2008, the pound was $1.90, and it's now more like $1.60, but check first. We had to buy CDW insurance, and hadn't counted on that.

I second the use of Arnold Clark—excellent service and right there when you need them but get the windscreen and tire coverage!

I used Arnold Clark all the time, can't fault them plus I get a discount through my work but even at that their prices are very good.

AND (Arnold Clark) their inclusive insurance packages are excellent—no surprises when you pop that tire or scrape the side ...they used to be only in the city but now have a very convenient airport location.

Your post makes no sense. First of all AutoEurope IS an American company. Second -- they are not an rental company, but a broker. And most important - they get overwhelmingly positive reviews.

They are not the only way to go - but I find that about 75% of the time they will have the best rates. On my recent trip they were the best I could find for my Scotland/northern England hire, while Avis directly was best for my rental on Jersey.
