Scotland boarders area
 

Been looking at Coldingham and Eyemouth, both reachable by bus from Berwick upon Tweed.. Have looked at the local web sites as well as Undiscovered Scotland.

Can anyone share comments.

Well that would be nice too. But just general comments for a quiet place to get over jet lag and relax.

Everythuing from North Berwick to Berwick on Tweed. But <u>especially</u> St Abbs Head - just magnificent.

Then inland there are all the border abbeys - especially Dryburgh and Melrose, big houses, Preston Mill, etc etc, Don't know how the bus service is except for right along the coast (I've always had a car in the area).

I did stay a couple of nights in a tiny B&B down on the shore in Burnmouth (not even sure if they have a website). It was a fisherman's cottage at the bottom of the cliff.

Of the 2 you mention, Eyemouth

I don't know either very well, but Eyemouth is the prettier and better know, if only for its disaster.

Yes, but when I checked out Eyemouth it said something to the effect "a candy floss" kind of place. I do not want to stay in a place with an amusement pier.

So, another Scotland coastal village? This will be in winter, not looking for places to see, more just somewhat scenic, a pub or two and near a rail station.

In winter Eyemouth won't be candy floss-ish at all. St Abbs Head is sooooooo gorgeous and scenic I'd still consider it.

"<i>So, another Scotland coastal village? </i> How about one of the Fife fishing villages -- or have you already been there? Crail or Anstruther are both scenic and have a few pubs/restaurants.

Or how about up on the Black Isle like Fortrose or Cromarty?

I've a particular fondness for Whithorn and the surrounding area, rogeruktm. I spent a few weeks in winter there about 7 years ago and it was wonderful:-

I think you might find Eyemouth a bit dead, Roger. I'm struggling to remember...have you done Berwick on Tweed?

Dead is good. Done Berwick on Tweed twice. Once solo and once with Julie.

Been looking at Fife villages as well, but the down side is having to go to St. Andrews for buses to them.

I stayed at St. Abbs a few years ago, in a B&B right next to the harbor. It was lovely. Gorgeous coastal walks and St. Abbs Head bird sanctuary. Hired a Range Rover one day for a trip along the cliffs to Fast Castle.
