Scotland B&B's
Hello folks!
My wife and I are planning a two week trip to Scotland for the fall. We're staying for a few days around Lock Awe and had a friend recommend a B&B around Edinburgh (New Mill Cottage). We've stayed in B&B's throughout Ireland, England, New Zealand and South Africa. We've never hit a 'bad' one, but have found some that were truely excellent (great locations, nice houses, fine hosts, good food or all of the above). Anybody have any in particular that they'd recommend? We've still flexible in our plans so I'm not too particular about location at the moment (we do plan on going to the St. Andrews, Aberdeen, Loch Ness and Isle of Skye areas). Thanks in advance... if I can reciprocate with information on any place I've visited, just let me know (see above + Belize, Kenya and a bunch of ski destinations). |

Isle of Skye -- had a great B&B called Tir Alainn, just south of Broadford. The host even sang to us as he served breakfast! Great view of the sea, too!

Thanks for the advice in Skye... I'll definitely check it out.

When you say "Isle of Skye area," are you saying that you want to stay ON the Isle of Skye, or nearby? If you want to stay on the isle, look into the Three Chimneys - made famous by its restaurant of the same name but now has an adjoining inn. Friends stayed there recently and gave favorable reviews. On the other hand, if you want to be in the Highlands and just do a day trip to Skye, you could do a lot worse than The Grange in Fort William. We stayed there in 2002 and made a permanent friend in the innkeeper, and intend to go back in 2005. Great accommodations, with a true "like home" feeling to it, beautiful views of Loch Linnhe, about a 10-minute walk from the center of Fort William - which in itself is not particularly charming but provides a very good jumping-off point for touring the Highlands. You can check out The Grange in Karen Brown's Guides and also at www.grangefortwilliam.com

3gigs,
Thanks for the info on Grange. We're still working up our plans, so we're still flexible. I checked their website and it looks very nice. Thanks again! |
My daughter and I spent a wonderful time at a B & B in Pitlochry, beautiful manor house with exceptional hosts. http://www.wellwoodhouse.com

BonnieGirl,
Thanks for the information... it looks very nice! Thanks! |
We just stayed this past May at the Roskhill House in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye and absolutely loved it. Would highly reccomend it. Great location, good breakfast and very friendly inn keepers who helped us plan our daily activities.

Thanks Tec... I'll look into it.
