Can any one tell me where is Prestwick Airport in relation to Edinburgh? I understand that it is 32 km out of Glasgow but in what direction? Is there transport to Prestwick from Edinburgh? Ryanair flies out of Prestwick to Paris. So my question is, do I stay put in Edinburgh the night before flying to Paris around noon and drive or train to Prestwick in the morning? Or do I drive (or train?) to Glasgow to spend the night? I hate to move if I don't have to. Thanks

You shouldn't have to move. It's about 2h15m by train from Edinburgh to Prestwick Airport. This involves a 50 minute train journey into Glasgow Queen Street station, a 10 to 15 minute walk to Glasgow Central and a 45 minute train from there to Prestwick.

You could either do what ron suggests, or drive (or train) over to Prestwick or Troon the evening before.

Prestwick is SW of Glasgow and Edinburgh is due east of Glasgow so they are on opposite sides of the country - the train trip is not arduous but you do have to schlepp your luggage a few blocks between stations in central Glasgow.

There are MANY nice B&Bs in Prestwick and Troon and the scenery is nice. So I would stay in Edinburgh until late afternoon and then travel over to Prestwick (and turn in the car there if you drive).

Ron and Janis thank you. Since we will have been in Edinburgh for 7 days already I think an early train is in order. Has anyone stayed in Ayr? Which town is preferable? Our flight doesn't go out until 15:00. And does anyone have a fovorite B&B in the favorite town?

Can't recommend a specific B&B because when I've been in that area it has been in self-catering for a week or days trips from elsewhere. But Ayr is fine - so are Prestwick and Troon for that matter.

There are MANY B&Bs and small hotels in the area because they are very popular seaside and golf holiday towns. I'd just wait until you are in edinburgh and have the Tourist Information Center at Waverly Bridge make a booking for you.
