Scored Paris tickets through award miles
I am jumping for JOY!!!! I just scored a direct flight to Paris for two through my Northwest Airlines miles...yipeeeeeeeee. The best part is I asked for the same reservations a week ago and the tickets were over worth 200,000 which I didn't have. For some reason today, they were 100,000 for both. Did I say they were direct and during winter break in Feb 08 which is often blacked out...So happy :)

I don't mean anything by my question, but can you please explain why you feel that is so special?
I just checked AA availibility for 2/8 and returning on 2/15 and received the following back: (I don't know where you are flying from but if you are NWA customer I assumed MSP and since AA does not have non-stops from there to CDG, there will be 1 connection each way but....) Economy Off-Peak - 40,000 Award Miles Per Ticket Award Miles Per Ticket 40,000 miles X Number of Passengers X 2 Total Award Miles Used 80,000 miles Taxes and Fees Per Ticket Taxes 72.30 USD Number of Passengers X 2 Total Taxes 144.60 USD all flights were good flights (mid afternoon leaving MSP, arriving CDG next morning and morning departure from CDG and arriving MSP the same day in the evening. Nothing special and it happens everyday. |
AAFF,
You kind took the wind out of hopalongmay's sails... But, that's how it goes. |
I'm still trying to figure out why the tickets originally were going to be 200,000 miles but now are half that.
|
The most amazing part - the entire month of FEB is available for 40K miles each...
|
hopalongmay - I'm happy for you :)
Congraulations, enjoy the moment, and enjoy your trip to Paris |
thanks everyone..even to AAFrequentFlyer..
oh and i so happy since there are never any direct flights from NYC-JFK to be exact for NWA. and i have been trying to use these miles for three years now for only nonstop flights without success.. so for me that's special :) |
Like I said, I did not mean anything by my question. Sorry to hear about your experience with NWA, but for many of us it's totally dfferent.
On that note, HAVE A GREAT TRIP! |
no prob AAFF...
that's why i have moved on from nwa but still needed to use up my miles. ;) |
AAFF,
The real surprise here is that NWA seems to be adding partner award international flights to destinations that they service direct. There are several AF award flights available right now that I can normally only find via NWA & KLM. I just secured AF flights from DTW to CDG (dest. LYS/dep. MRS) for September at 50k miles each. This deal is normally only available at Rulebuster rates. I even found NWA standard award flights available to points serviced by BA for AF. I don't recall ever seeing this before. Have a great trip, hopalong. |
Jump for joy, hopalongmay! Don't let anyone pour cold water on your excitement. I just spent 60,000 AA miles on DFW-LHR non-stop in May, with a return from Rome-LHR-DFW in June. I purchased a companion ticket for DH for $915.00. Whether that was a REALLY good deal or not doesn't matter. It's done and we're going. I, too, am jumping for joy!

Sometimes it is pretty exciting to finally score = some airlines release so few seats on certain routes that you feel like using those miles for the magazine subscription option ...
I guess the previous rate of double the miles was the "go=whenever=you=like" price. The 50K per person rate is the "you're in luck, we have a couple of seats at the rate we SAY Europe costs" price. The lesson: keep trying. |
We are geting 4 tickets using FF miles on British Air to Paris in August, but what they don't tell you up front is that you still have to pay for taxes (about $250/ticket). Is this the case with other miles? Not that I am complaining too much, the tickets are still cheap.
|
It can be frustrating when you are trying to get tickets for miles. I think you did score, hopalongmay. And, based on my experience, the reason why the tickets opened up at a lower rate is because someone let them go. The same thing has happened to me in the past. The airline says there are no tickets and then the next day/week/month there suddenly are. It is usually due to a cancellation or someone not following through with point redemption. This is why you must be persistent when redeeming and always keep trying. You never know what may be just around the corner!
Congrats and enjoy your trip! I'll be right behind you in April using my points. ;) |
Good for you, hop
|
Have a great trip !!!
My airmiles won't even get me a cup of tea in the BA canteen. Enjoy Muck |
Persistence is the key! We are off to London and Paris on BA miles in 3 weeks..Upgrades to BC for only 25,000 miles and thats for round trip!! Sure beats AA's 25,000 miles plus cash for a one way!

Well I am excited for you, hop! I know how you feel. I recently got my frequent flyer ticket on Delta for 50k miles and I was so happy about it! Plus it's a great route-- PNS-ATL-MXP and VCE-ATL-PNS in May. Now they are up to 75k miles and the routes are different.
Have a great trip! Johanna |

Couldn't get PNS so we leave for Paris from Gulfport to ATL to Paris in April and back thru Houston. I hope you don't have that first flight from Venice--you have to get up so early!! Dave in Fairhope |
Hi Dave
How did you survive the wheather yesterday? Actually, I have an afternoon flight out of Venice, so that's nice. Johanna |
