Scilly Islands/Cornwall
I am planning a return trip to Cornwall and would like to include a week's stay somewhere on the Scilly's.

Suggestions on where to stay and best method of travel (ferry vs. helicopter ... with luggage!) would be greatly appreciated!

There is a daily ferry from Penzance. You can also fly or helicopter but the ferry is the most economical.

There are some very nice B&Bs on St Mary's and Tresco and a few self catering cottages - I think more on St Mary's. The isles are beautiful -- you will love them.

Janis

Thanks for the quick reply. A few years ago I spent a week touring part of Cornwall using Penzance as a base and fell in love with the area (as did my mom); we are looking forward to a return visit. While in Cornwall we talked with a number of people who made to trip over to Scilly's and most claimed that the ferry made for a very rough crossing and most complained about the 'queasy' feeling. I don't know if this is considered the norm or not. Have you made the crossing via ferry and what is your opinion?

I appreciate your suggestion of using St Mary's as a base. Now ... do you or anyone else have suggestions for a B&B's that you are fond of on St Mary's? What about special places to visit that you care to share?

Cindy

Go for the helicopter. We did and weren't disappointed. Also had heard about the rough ferry crossings. The views coming back over Land's End are just incredible.

Went to St Mary's and Tresco in May. Helicoptered to St Mary's, boat to Tresco and back, and then steamer ship to Penzance. St Mary's is a beautiful place.
