Schoen Wien
I'm sitting in a nice cafe right now enjoying great weather, great food, and, of course, wonderful kaffee, wine , and beer.
Check out the daily pic. http://alexstarke.tripod.com/pictday.htm What a wonderful way to miis the Republican convention!!! |
Thanx for the pic, OP.
Brings back memories. |
I will try to put one or two up a day.
The Deutsch course over here keeps me pretty busy but there is still time for food und fun |
Too bad you missed a great convention.
|
What's with the umlauts?
|
The umlaut is those 2 dots put on some German vowels in order to give the particular sound of two vowels pronounced together. Sometimes they are given as OE, AE, in case you don't have a german keyboard. Schon is given schoen in case you can't type the Umlaut.
|
How 'bout crispy roast duck, red cabbage and potato dumplings for dinner tonight? Chase it with a beer. Then cream cheese strudel with warm vanilla sauce and strong coffee to finish.
Your trip will be a miserable Austrian failure without the above included. Give us a report if you are able to accomplish this. |
Platzman;
Where do you recommend? The weather is great here today! I am out for a nice long bike ride to enjoy the day. |
Since you are doing a german course how about "schönes Wien"?
Harzer |
Rotisserie Sirk in the Hotel Bristol had it on the menu a few years ago, and (near the Rathaus away from the tourist area) on Langegasse was the Alte Backstube.
Guten appetit! |
Ich gratuliere dir, Operaman! Du kannst allerdings sehr gutes Deutsch in Wien lernen-aber mit einem starken Akzent! (note those strong and weak endings in the dative case!)
|
Danke Platzman. I will try the Backstube very soon!
|
Spygirl; Thanks. I'll try to remember. It is hard to concentrate when there is so much to do and see. I sure love the wireless connection in the Cafes here!
I took a nice bicycle ride out to Klosterneuberg yesterday...wonderful |
How long does it take to bike it out there? On the map it seems a considerable distance.
|
I like your menu platzman but where is the wine?? I realize that the proper wine would be a red but I would go with a Grüner Veltliener every time. Wish I could taste it right now. I would go to Austria just for that! Little minds are so easily pleased.
|
Actually that menu is what many restaurants in Austria serve on national independence day, October 26th. Not too sure about the strudel, but for sure the duck, red cabbage and dumplings, accompanied by beer. Although I'm sure any good wine would do.
|
platzman, I hope you didn't think the "little mind" referred to you. I meant me of course.Would hate to offend anyone who recommends such a great dinner..
|
Hello pip!
No, I didn't take the comment as aimed at me. You were obviously referring to the possibility of going to Austria just for the meal and wine. However, my mother-in-law would believe you were referring to me!(lol) |
Platzman;
Iy took about 45 min to bike there. Would have been less but I took a more out of the way journey there. In other words; I did not consult the map. No Ente on the backstube menu; I'll check back later. |
That may have been a special menu item for the National Holiday. I was last there in late October.
