Schlipol Airport/Amsterdam/question

Hi, Does anyone have an update on how long it is taking to get thru Schlipol on a flight from the US? Unfortunately it will be on 7/4? Sue

Are you thinking July 4th is going to have some sort of impact in The Netherlands?

Really...pay attention to THEIR holidays while on vacation, not ours.

Of course, I get your response. I am simply concerned as to how long it might take to get thru the airport. I know security is a bit more according to some reports. Sue

You are talking about de-planing and exiting the airport? I would not expect it to take very long. The extra security concern is boarding at Schipol. They really like to ask more questions than we usually do here in the US.

Although you have not stated whether AMS is the end of your flight for the day or a layover from the U.S., doing a detective work through your other threads seems to indicated you are actually staying in Amsterdam after your arrival at AMS.

If this is the case, why is security (are you referring to luggage security check?) relevant? For arrival passengers, two relevant queues are passport control and luggage retrieval. For passport control, the arrival time, which is also not stated, is relevant.

Unfortunately it will be on 7/4?>

Think she was thinking of extra security that day because of our national holiday -logical but security is no doubt intense always now -much of it you will not see.

Sue - do you have a time line - like taking a train or what?

Sue81, your biggest wait will be at the immigration line where you show your passport, once you've gotten off the plane, to enter the Netherlands and the EU. If you arrive at a busy time, when a lot of other flights arrive, you might have to wait longer. I've connected in Amsterdam many times and departed too but never actually arrived there (I tend to fly right back out but stay a night or two at the end of a trip). In my experience, it's an efficient airport, though lately I've been hearing of slow-downs especially regarding departure, not arrival.

You are staying in Amsterdam so you will only have to deal with passport control and luggage collection Passport control could take a while, it depends on how many planes arrive at the same time, and how many no EU citizens are onboard. It won't be any worse than it is for the average European arriving at a US airport.
Your luggage will get to the band pretty fast, and if you have a long wait for passport could already be on the band. There are screens to tell you which band you need. After getting your bags you just go out through the green customs channel. No one will stop you.

HI, Palen hit it on the head. We arrive in Amsterdam from US in the early AM. I've been thru Schlipol several times before, and did wonder if security might be extra heavy and the time involved. We are being met at airport, so wondered about time to get thru passport control etc. Get in about 8 AM or there about. got 4 days in Amsterdam. Thanks all. Sue
