Hello, grateful if any one could guide me please. I am England resident (with work permit)and have Indian passport. I got type C tourist visa by France consulate, London starting from 5 July 2015. However my Paris flights and accommodation is booked on 2 July 2015. I had submitted flight and hotel booking details. What shall I do please to get my visa start date as 2 July 2015 instead of 5 July 2015? (I had one Schengen visa issued by Spain from 5 June to 4 July 2015 which was single entry visa. I visited Spain for 5 days holiday and got entry and exit stamp on my passport from Spain and entry stamp at the UK. So this should prove that Spain visa is cancelled as it was single entry. However it looks like France consulate did not check it properly and issued visa from 5 July 2015)

I shall be grateful if any one can advise the best way forward please as my whole trip is booked with my friends who are UK residents (so they do not need visa) and can not reschedule travel.

I have a very worrisome question that I hope someone can help with. My son just left for Switzerland in a 10-week course through an American university in the U.S.
He will be studying in Switzerland and was told he would not need a visa. Following this is a 16-week study abroad program in Italy with the same university. He took with him all of the paperwork to apply at the Italian Consulate in Switzerland to get a student visa for that second program in Italy. Does anyone know the likelihood that they will accept and grant a student visa under these circumstances?
Any help....?
Thanks

MadhaviJ -

Sorry - you have a visa - and the date is for next week. I think what you have to change now are your travel plans.

I think that even if you could reapply for a French visa it's much too late to do it now.

You can contact them to ask but you can't count on it.

Hello,

I am a Canadian currently in Germany on a 2 year student visa, which expires July 31. I am planning to travel to Italy at the beginning of July, and leave Europe from Italy on August 1 (unfortunately not July 31), thereby overstaying my student visa for 1 day. Would I be able to return to Italy at the end of August on a 90 day travel visa with my Canadian passport, or would I be denied entry because of my 1 day overstay?

Thanks for your help..

Alec Apr 17th, 2016 12:34 PM

You will probably ok, as Italian border agents aren't known for diligence and attention to details (things may have become stricter since refugee crisis and ISIS attacks). The proper thing to do is to leave Schengen area on or before 31st July and get Schengen exit stamp and then re-enter Schengen after 31st July. This way you get Schengen entry stamp with proper date on it for the start of your 90-day stay.

I have a question regarding my Student Visa. I came from USA to Frankfurt, Germany on Feb. 28th, 2016 and ended up getting my Student Visa on April 18th, 2016. It is valid from March 1st, 2016 to September 30th, 2016. My flight from Frankfurt, Germany to USA leaves on October 31st, 2016. Should I travel outside the Schengen zone starting from September 29th to October 3rd (for example to the UK) and then go back to the Schengen zone to travel freely in Europe until I leave? Is that possible?

Alec, I have a doubt regarding the entrance in the Schengen area.
I am a student with type D visa in Spain, and I'm allowed to stay until the 30th of June.
Since I am Brazilian, I don't need any visa to enter the Schengen area as a tourist.
My question is: since I am flying to Brazil at the beginning of June, when I get back to Spain, can I enter spain as a student, with my visa, but then stay the 90-day (as tourist)? I will have the stamp saying I left the Schengen area on June 3rd and a Stamp saying I got back on June 25th. Can I enter in Spain with this visa (so I wont have any problems at the border) and stay 90 days from the date I have entered (per say, June 25th), or should I leave Schengen area anyway before the 30th and re-enter after my visa expires (July 1st)?
Thanks in advance!!

I have a question I haven't found here yet. My son is a US citizen. He will be traveling to France this fall for a study abroad program. His actual course dates total 83 days. There is a couple days of orientation before the program begins so let's say 87 days. Technically he is not required to have a student visa for this stay since it is less than 90 days, but he is planning to go about 2 weeks early to travel before his program begins. He will then have exceeded 90 days.

My question is: given this information, will they issue him a student visa allowing him to be in France for longer than 90 days or will they deny it since his actual program is less than 90 days even though his stay is longer than 90?

Thank you.

It would be better to start a new thread with this question seattlegrl. You really need to ask the consulate but your son cannot stay in the Schengen zone for 90+ days without some type of long stay visa.

If he is not technically required to have one for school, the school may not be setup to help obtain one. My feeling is that 2 weeks of travel before school would not be a good idea unless you have made specific provision with the consulate.

nytraveler Jun 5th, 2016 05:57 PM

He can get a visa longer than 90 days only if the school programs is longer than 90 days. If he is not using a student visa he is stuck with the 90 day tourist visa.

Overextending it is not recommended - since if he is somehow caught near the end of the school term he can be immediately deported and lose whatever credits he was trying to get.

lincasanova Jun 8th, 2016 12:16 AM

He CAN request a student visa IN THE USA at the FRENCH consulate/Embassyfor the length of the program with the papers the school should give him, proof of payment, etc. He should explain his case to THEM.. not here, and see what THEY say at Embassy

Ciao!

I am an American student in Italy. I have a D Visa (student) and a residents permit here in Rome. Both expire October 22. I have an internship starting on November 1, of which then I will have a work permit/visa granted. For the days between October 22 and November 1, will I have to leave the EU (go to UK or elsewhere), in order for my tourist visa to begin? Is it possible to extend my student visa? Are there any other solutions that can be recommended? I'm aware Germany is less lenient on allowing expired visa's into the country, so I want to make sure I am in compliance.

Thank you!

First, I want to thank everyone of you, especially Alec, for your helpful comments! I just want to share my experience with this specific topic. Me (German) and my girlfriend (Canadian) spent the last year in France. She had a 10-months student visa and was working as an au-pair. Her visa expired on June 21st, but she wanted to spend the rest of the summer in Europe with me. First we thought that she could stay for 3 more months (the famous 90 days in the Schengen area), but after asking at several French government institutions, we learned that that would be a violation of the visa regulations and that she might have to pay a fine for overstaying. In order to use her visa-free 90 days, she'd have to leave the Schengen area first. We were desperate because she couldn't afford going back to Canada and then come back to Europe for the summer, but then we read about that awesome trick that was mentioned earlier in the thread: leaving the Schengen area doesn't mean that you have to go back to your home country – it only means leaving the Schengen area. So we took a flight to London on June 20th and spent a couple of days in the UK, which is not part of the Schengen area. When we flew back to France on June 23rd, her visa had expired and she could now enter the Schengen area as an ordinary tourist who was granted her visa-free 90 days. We were worried if everything would work out, but no problems occured and could spent a very nice summer in Europe together. For those living in southern Europe: I guess a trip to Morocco would do it as well, since it is not part of the Schengen agreement. Just check if you can travel to these countries without a visa (for my girlfriend it was no problem to travel to the UK since she is Candian). Thank you all very much, I hope my post can help future travellers!

Hi, I'm a malaysian holding an italian type D student visa from 26 sept 2016 --- 28 april 2017 for 200 days. I would like to travel around the schengen area. Am I allow to travel or I only can stay in Italy? And also I would like to travel to london but I'm confusing whether I can do that or not, I hope can get some useful reply here.

Thank you everyone.

Alec Oct 27th, 2016 03:35 PM

valerism

You can travel in other Schengen states for 90-in-180 days during the validity of your type D visa.
There is a separate rule for UK, and since you are a non-visa national, you only need your passport to enter UK, usually for 6 months.

valerism Oct 27th, 2016 03:39 PM

Thank you for your reply. That means doesn't matter if I'm holding a student visa, i still can fly out to non schengen area like UK and just with my malaysian passport in between my study period?

lincasanova Oct 29th, 2016 03:41 AM

you need to ask UK immigration. If you need a visa for UK under tourist standards, you need to ask officials. You need to have the correct documents to enter every country you go to.

Alec Oct 29th, 2016 06:24 AM

Your type D visa is only relevant for UK immigration as it shows evidence that you are only visiting UK and will be returning to Italy to resume your studies, so having is to your advantage.
Malaysians don't need a visa to visit UK, so all you need is your passport. They may ask you about your rough itinerary (what you are going to do), and having adequate funds.
