scenic driving route amboise to sarlat
 

Hi again. Since I had such good luck last time with a similiar question, I thought I would try again. Anyone have a particularly nice route from Amboise to Sarlat?

viamichelin has us going through Poitiers and Limoges while Mappy suggests a route through Vierzon and Châteauroux.

I would go between Poitiers and Chateauroux, passing through the towns of Angles sur Angl&egrave;s (?) (<i>un plus beau village de France</i>) and St. Savin (about 30 km. east of Poitiers) to visit the abbey church there.

I think that I would get off the main highway at Limoges and take the D704 south through Hautefort.

We took the same journey (via Vierzon, Ch&acirc;teauroux, Limoges) with a pleasant lunchtime stop along the River Creuse, specifically in the scenic town of Gargilesse-Dampierre. We exited the A20 below Argenton and returned to it near Eguzon.

I agree with Ira. The D704 from Limoges is a very attractive road. We took it in the spring, when the apple orchards were in bloom, but even other seasons would be attractive. And you get to go past Hautefort, one of the loveliest chateaux in the area.

After Hautefort, just keep going straight, through La Bachellerie, then head for Montignac, and Sarlat.

You may want to visit the 17th century hospital behind the Hautefort chateau, which I find more interesting than the chateau itself.
