Scavi tour in Rome

I read somewhere that children below the age of 15 are not allowed on the tour. Is this true? My kids are 9 and 6 and my husband and I would like to take them along. Advice please.

Those are indeed Scavi's rules, and they're not known for making exceptions. I know of folks who have taken their 14 year-olds on this tour, but the kid in question could have (and obviously did) pass for a 15 year-old, so it was not a problem. I suspect this will not be the case with your kids, though. Your options appear to be to skip the tour entirely or get a baby-sitting service to look after your children while you and your husband take the Scavi tour.

Or one parent can take the tour at a time.

I seem to recall that children 11 and older are allowed if accompanied by a parent.

I recently made a reservation for a Scavi tour for next month and this is a direct quote of the information provided in the e-mail from the Scavi office: "The visit is conducted only by our authorized guides and lasts about an hour and a half. Each group consists of about 12 people who must be at least 15 years old (exception will be made for children between 12-15 years old accompanied by a parent)"

Thanks very much folks - I guess we will have to do it one at a time!
