Saxons a Problem?
I remember seeing a movie about England where the Saxons were causing trouble and Maid Marion asked in a dismissive way if a Saxon could really be a problem. I know that was a while back but have the Saxons settled down or do they still give the Normans a hard time? Who is better the Normans or the Saxons? How about in Sicily? Are the Sicilians as bad as the Saxons? Maybe this is all a Norman problem after all.
|
The saxons are bad people, actually they invadeded the country coming from lower saxony which is part of Germany now. When William the conqueror came from normandy in 1066, he freed the island from Saxon rule! Vive les Normans :-)
|
We've been down this road before. Played out.
|
Would you ask if the Goths or the Visigoths are still a problem? How come you're allowed to ask this rude question about the Saxons? Are you some sort of troll just wanting to foment argument on this board? I've just come back from London and there are no Saxon uprisings that affect tourists. My suggestion is that people like you just stay home in Iowa where you'll never have to deal with Saxons at all!

whose leg are you pulling in this obvious jest - Saxons or Normans or Sicilians?
|
A while back ? Are you feeling OK ??
|
As you probably know, the Normans are always getting into trouble with their friends the Vikings, pillaging and making it impossible for a lady tourist to feel safe out alone at any time of day or night.
Having Saxon roots, I would say, avoid the Sicilians and beware Normans and whatever you do, don't put on any silly helmets at the pub. |
Read 1066 And All That by W.C. Sellar and R.J. Yeatman. It will fill in all the gaps for you. And also illustrate the origin of Martha's "Good Thing."

Actually the Saxons migrated to the British Isles after an initial invitation in the 6th century, then were offered land and certain rights. If they had come to England today they would have been able to claim benefits, bring family members, both immediate and distant, and been able to freely practice their religion whilst being intolerant of the beliefs of their hosts.
|
Lets face it, the Normans are civilized people, very sophisticated with a certain "je ne sais quoi", good food and manners. Those primitive uneducated Saxons have been the source of trouble for a long time. They don't even speak French!!!!. How odd is this!

The real b*st*rds are the Angles - and Celts are totally beyond the pail
|
Alright, Henneth, now you've gone and dragged the Iowans into this.
Hope you're ready for a REAL fight now. @-) |
>...Celts are totally beyond the pail..<
I take it that you are referring to Pi**ing contests in which the Celts would attempt to humiliate their opponents by squirting beyond the target receptacle? ((I)) |
I'm still wondering how do you solve a problem like Maria? Let her take the veil or what?
|
Some of my best friends are Saxons.
|
Hey, I AM one.

Never mind all this anti-saxon bile. The real baddie here is William the Bastard. He invaded Britain on the back of a made up dossier of "intelligence" that stated that Harold had weapons of mass destruction and trebuchets ready to launch at 45 minutes notice.
He had no idea for post invasion reconstruction, handed all the lucrative contracts to his friends in Normandy, and wonders why he is universally unpopular. His staff and troops all live in the heavily defended "Tower of London", and only come out on their armoured horses. The only media allowed to report on the invavsion are the heavily embedded, governement approved, tapestry makers. One hopes that in a few years time - say about 900 years we will have advanced sufficiently for this never to happen again. |
Oh, it happens all the time. Henry V returned the favor when he invaded France on the flimsiest of premises. "Busy giddy minds with foreign wars." A philosophy upon which an entire American political party teeters precariously.
|
>>on the flimsiest of premises<<
well, you never could trust French builders.... |
I've lost touch will all my Saxon relatives. My Saxonphone broke.
