Savill Gardens/Park Windsor
We will be visiting Windsor in a few weeks and were interested in visiting Savill Gardens. Unfortunately we will not have a car. I know that it is outside of Windsor. Anyone been there that can offer some tips?
Thanks |
Has anybody been there?

There was a bus from Windsor for an experimental period last summer, but there doesn't seem to be a mention of it now. You could probably get a taxi from Windsor, or the nearest station is Egham (about a mile or so away). It may well be there are local occasional tour services - ask the local tourist office:

I'd probably just take a taxi from central windsor since it is only about 3.5 or 4 miles
Otherwise you'd take the train to Egham and then a taxi from the station or walk about a mile to the gardens. |
Yes, we have been there, and it's wonderful--lots of shady trees, huge flowering bushes, pleasant walks. It's worth finding a way to get there.

thanks everyone for the replies. I will try my hardest to visit.

If you like gardens you will love Savill Garden--I do hope you'll be able to organize transportation.
Egham, by the way, is a rather nice spot--it's near Runnnymede, where Mana Carta was signed. |
I visited Savill Gardens and Valley Gardens from Heathrow two weeks ago. From Windsor Parish Church bus stop, bus #41 and #43 (about every 30 minutes) to Englefield Green (Holly Tree stop) takes less than 20 minutes.
From bus stop to the garden takes about 15 minutes walk. For bus schedule, please check: www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/. If you have some time, it is worthwhile to take a short walk from Savill Gardens to Valley Gardens, both are most lovely in the spring. |
Saville Gardens sounds worthy of a visit. We will be driving from middle England with the idea of turning in the rental car at Heathrow prior to our stay in London. What village is Savill Gardens in and can anyone provide directions? We will be there in mid October. Thanks!

It isn't in a village - the Gardens are in Windsor Great Park. The nearest villages are Egham and Virginia Water.
Easy to get to from Windsor, the M25 or M4 depending on which way you are coming. There is parking at the Gardens. |
Thanks Judy C for the bus directions. A taxi is a viable option; however, would we be able to find one when we were ready to return to Windsor?

I am afraid there is no taxi queue by Savill gardens, perhaps you could get the taxi phone number from the taxi over, or from the cashiers(they are quite helpful) in the shop of gardens, then call the taxi after the visit.
