Save the Cornish Pasty

I came across this piece in a Rick Steves article posted on the CNN website today:

"Save the pasty" is the cry in Cornwall. The British government is currently seeking EU protection for the traditional Cornish meat pie. This means that only those pies made in Cornwall using traditional techniques and recipes can be called a "Cornish pasty."

well, the good news is i see daily signs that the pasty is alive and well and living in cornwall.

every town and village has a shop/ cafe selling the darn things at a miniumum of 100 yard intervals.

and even if they've had one for lunch, no real cornishman [or waman] will refuse the opportunity to eat another for tea.

anyone who tried to sell anything other than a real cornish pasty round here would soon be out of business.

The cornish pasty lives, OK?

Oh dear. I ate the worst Cornish Pasty of my life in Padstow.
Nothing could have been more revolting. What a disappointment to an English holiday.

The best Cornish Pasty I ever ate was at the BritRail cafe in Plymouth in 1984.

The worst was at Euston station last September.

I think the appellation controlée is a good idea. There's so much crap being imported from China nowadays.

I'd pay good cash money to watch a chinaman try and make a Cornish Pasty.

Then I'd put it on youtube.
