saturday night at Mont st.Michele

What do people think about the idea of staying at Mont St. Michele on a Sat. night in July. Will it be crazy there? If the only other choices were Fri or Sun what would you pick?

A Saturday NIGHT shouldn't be bad, as most tourists leave at dusk, even in mid-summer. It might be crazy until after dinner, but I think you'll enjoy it immensely. (it's Michel -it was a guy, not a girl).

I'd stay on the Mont anytime I could get the reservation. It is a totally different place at night and in the very early morning--calm, peaceful and much more spiritual.

Definitely spend the night there at least once! You will marvel to watch the streets fill up in the morning.

Agree with other posters. A night (any night, IMO) when the daytrippers are gone offers a *completely* different (and wonderful) experience.

My memory from staying overnight was experiencing the quietness of deserted streets imagining about pilgrims that went through the narrow passages in the centuries past, visiting the Abbey's night show, watching the sunset from the Abbey, and watching the tide rushes in while having a supper at a restaurant overlooking the bay.

I was also able to walk out onto the causeway around 11pm to take a long exposure shot of the Mont hoping to a capture flood lit image. Instead, I got a flood lit image of the Mont with twilight background from the sun set many hours ago no longer visible to naked eyes.

Overnight is great, but don't expect too much from the food :) Early morning, before the hordes of tourist buses arrive is my favourite time - it's a stunning place. Try and get up to the Abbey first thing and you'll almost have the place to yourself.
As Greg says, some of the best pictures I took on my entire trip were of Mont St Michel at night from the causeway.

BikerScott has a point - the choice of hotels and restaurants on le MSM is limited - NOT a spot to expect great hotels or meals, especially La Mère Poulard's overpriced, runny omelettes. But spending the night there is worth the mediocre accommodations and food.

Thank you all so much. You are a big help in making decisions. While we are at it ...do you have recomendations for hotels...possibly with a room for four (2 teens) but we'd be fine with two rooms.
And thanks for the correction of my spelling.

Our room was pretty small if I remember, nothing spectacular but the staff was quite nice and not La Mère Poulard's. I have the name somewhere. I'll find it for you. I believe we ate there for dinner and we loved it! Maybe not the best, but we had heard not to expect too much as you have been told here.

We did have a drink at the Piano Bar at La Mère Poulard's and it was very worth it. A very unique bar, though very, VERY expensive but worth taking a peak at.
