Saturday and Sunday in Paris - how to employ?
 

Hello!<BR>I'm going to be in Paris in may and the first two days will be Saturday and Sunday.My hotel is located in Montmartre and I don't know what to do these days - is it good idea to visit Louvre or other large museum? Maybe - a boat trip? <BR>It will be nice to get some good advices and sorry for my english!

Hi<BR>Montmartre is a fun place to be in Paris on a Sunday. In the morning, you could take a stroll around the rue Lepic and rue des Abbesses, check out the market stalls, stop off for a coffee at Les Deux Moulins on rue Lepic (the caf&eacute; where Am&eacute;lie worked in the film), and enjoy a spot of people watching. If it's a nice day, then strolling around the old village streets behind the Sacr&eacute; Coeur is an absolute delight. And I would certainly recommend taking a boat trip on the Seine in the afternoon.<BR><BR>If you are going to be in Paris for a few days, then I would recommend avoiding the museums on a Sunday - it is a popular day for Parisians to visit the museums and you may find them very busy - Saturday would be better. Better still, if you have time, go on a weekday (though check when places are open, as many close on Monday or Tuesday).

I second the previous poster's recommendations for a day in Montmartre. There are also some nice walking tours of Montmartre in Thirza Vallois's book Around and About Paris.<BR><BR>I would think the weather might dictate your choices a bit. What month is your visit? If it's nice, you could just spend the day outside strolling, visiting Paris' many parks and cafes.<BR>

Or do the Marche de Puce on saturday if you are interested in antiques or junque ! <BR><BR>The Marais is very lively on Sundays.

I would avoid the Louvre and d'Orsay on the weekend because of the crowds. Sunday is a great day for strolling in the Marais section. Especially if the weather is good, it's always great just to stroll in Paris!

I have found that weekends are the best time for street artists selling their art! Have a wonderful time. We will be in Paris in May also. Several years ago there was a great weekend art show and sale in the Square du Jean XXIII behind Notre Dame. Also in May there is also a wonderful big antique show in the area of the Bastille.

My husband &amp; I will also be arriving in Paris for the weekend (on Friday) and would like to know the best way to take advantage of the weekend. We will be there for a week. I am interested in the markets and street artists. We will be there during the last week of September. Thank you.

<BR>Hi, I would wander through Montmarte on Saturday and the Marais on Sunday. Don't miss the Piccasso Museum in the Marais and the Place des Vosges.There are lovely places to shop, galleries and all manner of places to eat. I would save the Louvre and D'Orsay for early Mon and Tues mornings. The bateau mouche is good in the late afternoon, when the lights are going on all over the city.<BR>Have a wonderful time!

Le Reminet, at 3 rue des Grands-Degres in the 5th, is open for dinner on Sunday. If you look at the reviews it's gotten on Fodor's, you'll see that they're mixed: some of the earlier reviewers had complaints about the service, but the more recent reviews (including the one I wrote) are all highly favorable. It's small, so make a reservation in advance if you plan to eat there.

I believe that national museums are closed on Tuesday, and that includes chateaux (Fontainebleau to be sure, maybe Versailles as well). The reason many Parisians go to the Louvre on Sunday is that it is a free day. Go when it first opens and you might not feel as crowded.
