Hi hum,
You can easily spend 4 days around Bordeaux.
We will be visiting in the Fall. We are planning on staying in St. Emilion -one day for St. Emilion, one day for Bordeaux, one daytrip to Arcachon and the ocean.
You could add a day for a winery visit.

During your long stay in the Dordogne will you visit the Figeac/St-Cirq-Lapopie/Pech-Merle area? If not, it would be a pleasure to wander around that area for a few days.
Or head a bit farther south to Castelnaud-le-Montmiral/Revel/Albi/Gaillac/Cordes, etc.
Or as mentioned St-Emilion, then Arcachon, Cap Ferret, the Dune de Pylat, etc., maybe combined with a winery tour or two.

I meant my email name to imply that I am just another human being, but I did get a kick out of Ira's impliction that I might be a humming-one! Thanks for all your ideas but...I have already spent significant time in all the places mentioned, including Bordeaux itself. Any ideas south of the road D936/D660 between Beynac and St.Emilion. I know this is very specific, but I am hoping for treasures anyway.

The Michelin Green Guide has a recommended day drive of Cadouin, St. Avit, Ste-Croix, Monpazier, Biron, Villereal, Beaumont, Lanquais, St-Front, Cadouin.
They give a * to Bergerac, Monbazillac and Bridoire.
Can't help West of Bergerac.
