Sardinia with 4 nights
Hi All,
I've been doing some research into Sardinia but it seems the more I look into it, the more confused I get. My husband and I are planning to stay in Sardinia for 4 nights at the end of August this year. We haven't booked flights into the island yet, so we have the option to choose different airports depending on what area we stay. Could someone please suggest what area to base ourselves for 4 nights? We are 25 years old and like the beach but also want to be close to nice restaurants, etc. We really want to see the amazing, blue, crystal clear water of Sardinia. I've looked at Alghero, Cala Ganone and Olgiastra (specifically Arbatax and or Santa Maria Navarrese) but really can't decide on where to base ourselves. Any help would be much appreciated and thank you in advance! |
The "best beaches" are on the Eastern Coast. Cala Gonone is a good location for day cruises (you get to see the most famous ones some of which are only accessible by sea) but is a bit of a dead end : you have to drive up to Dorgali if you want to go elsewhere. I was disappointed by Arbatax.
Alghero is a larger city with plenty of good restaurants. The beach at Stintino is lovely. If you click on my name, you'll find 3 trip reports on Sardinia Will you have a car? For a first visit I would suggest Alghero. |
We will be getting a car while we're there. Thanks for your help!

Stintino/La Pelosa will be more than overcrowded in August.
Some of the best beaches are outside villages with shops, restaurants, etc. If you want to stay there, you have to book half board at the corresponding beach hotels like Hotel dei Pini, Fertilia Capriccioli Don Diego Chia Laguna Resort Colonna Beach Hotel, Marinella If you have a car, you may stay at Olbia, Alghero, San Teodoro or Villasimius where you can find many restaurants (book for dinner or arrive incredibly early, like around 7pm) and reach the beaches from there (not after 11am, if you look for available chairs/umbrellas). |
