Sardinia tour help

We are a couple from New Jersey celebrating our 10 yr anniversary leaving the kids home and would like to visit Sardina for a 7-10 days next May. Any suggestions on how to go about booking this trip? I've been looking for tour companies that can help put together a package with air/hotel. Or some advice on how to go about putting a trip together? Any help on how to go about putting a trip together is appreciated. We want to be able to spend time at some beautiful beaches, and be walking distance to the water and town for restaurants ideally. We would rent a car but only drive automatic.. is that a problem? Would like to see Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, and La Maddalena and any other towns where the water, beach and views are beautiful. Not sure where else to go and how to see it all.. do I do overnight trips or day trips to the different towns and which ones are the must sees? Some of the prices by Porto Cervo looked pretty high avg $1700 a night.. not looking to spend that much. But we like hotels in the 4 star range with private baths at least. Thanks!!!

We are also trying to organize a vacation to Sardinia this summer and would appreciate advise about the area. Mostly, what is the best way to get there from the US? I am a budget traveler, to a point.

Basically, BUMP

Thanks, Steve

My wife and I have been going to Sardinia every year for the past twenty. I go to GOLFO ARANCI, a lovely little small town about ten miles from Porto Cervo. The town has beautiful beaches, great scenery and fantastic restaurants. We have our own lodgings, but I know a great hotel there. It is called "Gabbiano Azzuro", the Blue Seagull. It is a beautiful place, has its own beach, and has a good restaurant, as well as a nice bunch of paddle boats for clients. If I did not have my condo on the beach, this would be the place I would choose. The rates, I believe, are about $200.00/night (maybe a bit more). There is also another place, LA MARGHERITA, which is also great. You can find these hotels by going to Italian Hotels, and then Sardinia. To get to Golfo Aranci, you fly into Rome, take another half hour flight to Olbia, rent a car from Hertz or others, in Olbia, and then drive 15 Kilometers to Golfo Aranci. My wife and I frequently take the very short trip to the Costa Smeralda to see how the other half lives. However we prefer Golfo Aranci, because we are simple peasants.

Any recommendations for booking air from the US to Sardegna? Any other hotel recommendations in other parts? How long does it take to drive from town to town? What time of year should we go?

We did not fly there. We took the overnight ferry from Naples. I would recommend to fly, it is much faster. There should be some connections from different places in Italy and European cities. Since there are a lot of British tourists visiting Sardinia, I am guessing, that there should be a flight from London.

If you go to Villasimius, I would recommend the Simius PLaya Hotel.
