Sardinia- itinerary- Advice Please :)

Hello,

I am planning a trip to Sardinia (5-6 nights) in August and I am looking for advice on how I should plan my itinerary and where I should stay?

At this stage I know we will fly into Olbia and spend 1 to 2 nights in each place whilst traveling by car around the north visiting the following places:

1. Arrive in Olbia/ Alghero (2 hours apart in distance)
2. Costa Smeralda – how long should I stay in Port Cervo (Hotel Cala Di Volpi)
3. Boat tour to La Maddalena - should I stay in Palau
4. Corsica day trip
5. Santa Teresa di Gallura and Isola Rossa- stop in Castelsardo (medieval village on the sea) – Where should I stay for this trip?
6. Stintino –for La Pelosa Beach – Where should I stay for this trip
7. Leave/ Departure from Alghero (45 mins from Stintino) or Olbia (2 hour drive)

Also are there any other sites I should see of visit.

Thanks in advance

I hesitate to give you an answer since it has been SO many years since we were there (2003). In any case, we absolutely LOVED Sardinia. We LOVED Castelsardo and stayed at the Riviera and loved the room and hospitality. It was a scenic walk into the old centro storico. We ate VERY well there. Some of the best pizza ever nearby.

We stayed at Hotel Roccaruja. Incredible breakfast. Nice beach right off the property and a nice restaurant on the beach. We walked to La Pelosa beach which is an awesome beach. Spectacular water colors as we walked along the boardwalk to La Pelosa. All shades of blue, all shades of green, and crystal clear. Fabulous!!

We stayed the night a couple of nights on La Maddalena. BTW, you will want to book your rooms as soon as you get your plan set. I imagine you know that August is going to be completely packed? It's the height of the season for the Emerald Coast.

Alghero was a nice place to stay but Olbia was not. We had to stay in Olbia though because our flight left super early in the morning.

To clarify, we ate at different places in town with really good food. One was in the centro storico was an amazing view. We ate there twice. Another was a pizza place on the 2nd floor up the street from Hotel Riviera. It was a pretty, friendly and picturesque town

La Pelosa in August is the absolute hell! People arrive at 7am in order to get the last available chairs and umbrellas. During the day, the beach is so packed that it's almost impossible to move.

From where will you do your (obviously organized) "day trip to Corsica"?

Olbia is a nice small Italian town, but completely packed in August. Arrive incredibly early (before 7pm) or late (after 10pm) if you want to find free seats at a restaurant.

Do you think 6 nights is too long in Sardinia?

You can do trips 1 to 5 from one and the same location. I'd pick Porto Cervo or Porto Rotondo which is halfway between Olbia and Palau (for La Maddalena) and less than 1 hr drive to Santa Teresa Gallura (for your trip to Corsica).
For days 6 and 7 stay in Castelsardo.
