Sardinia itinerary

Dear Fodorites,
I'm hoping some of you previous Sardinia travelers can weigh in our proposed (very general) itinerary of an upcoming trip to Sardinia in September. We have two weeks and we're trying to spend a few days in each our bases. We fly into Cagliari, and out of Olbia.
Cagliari -3 nights
Orosei - 4 nights
Alghero - 3 nights
Santa Teresa Gallura - 4 nights
We hope to enjoy good food, hiking, boat excursions, a bit of archaeology, a balance between town/city and village, and of course, some beach time. Does this itinerary look reasonable?
Thank you for any suggestions!

Your trip looks good. We had about 4 nights in Santa Teresa Gallura and the same amount of time in Alghero. I've not stayed at the other places you mention.

We loved Santa Teresa Gallura, one of our best days was a ferry to Bonifacio on Corsica. We had great weather and the views are spectacular. We needed to take our passports with us for the trip. Alghero was OK but not a favourite place. We enjoyed Capo Testa.

"hiking, boat excursions, a bit of archaeology, a balance between town/city and village, and of course, some beach time"

Archaeology means:
Day trip from Cagliari to Barumini and Isili
Visit of the Archeological Museum of Cagliari
Visit of the Museo Sanna at Sassari
Visit of the excavations of the Punic city of Tharros (West of Oristano).

Hiking and boat excursions:
Gala Gonone with boats to the beaches of Cala Luna - Cala Sisine - Cala Goloritze
and hiking trail to Cala Luna (easy)
as well as trails from Cala Goloritze into the mountains (strenuous).

There are also boats from Palau to Maddalena Island (with rather rocky beaches with some sandy coves)

Best sandy beaches in the South:
Villasimius (usually calm water)
Porto Pino (dune beaches)
Chia (beach resort)

Best sandy beaches in the North:
Spiaggie delle Bombarde e del Lazzaretto (West of the walled medieval city of Alghero)
Marinella (stop on he railway line Olbia - Golfo Aranci)
Rena Bianca, Liscia Ruja, Capriccioli, Romazzino (on the way from Olbia to Costa Smeralda)

Sta Teresa: some nice sandy baches in the surroundings.
Visit the medieval city of Bonifacio and the Nature reserve Lavezzi Islands (both in France).

Excellent advice from neckervd. Would only add the Capo Testa area of Santa Teresa is something special - sunset from the lighthouse too!
