Sardinia beach villa with infant?

We are travelling to Italy in late August for my husband's 40th birthday. We are starting in Prague with family and heading to Florence followed by a week long villa rental near Siena.

The last stage of our trip is proving to be a challenge. We will have a week (less a day or two)in early September before our departure from Rome.

Who: We are two adults with a one year old.

What: I would love to find a villa, apartment or smaller hotel (no large resorts please) either on the beach or within walking distance. Self catering facilities/kitchenette are preferred with the little one. We are willing to rent a car for day trips and dinners in a nearby town.

Where: We are looking for smaller towns with charm. This is our last week in Italy and we want to relax with our little one.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I have started searching the internet for villas but I'm not sure which section of the island meets our needs.
