Sardinia - Alghero - Is this a good location

I'm looking at an apartment but based on Google map, it shows 2km or 1 mile walk over a mile walk to historic part. The rental person says it's an easy walk but the map shows mountains and alot of construction on a highway. Anyone know this area that can verify that this is an easy walk before we book

"Strada Provinciale 105 Alghero-Bosa" to "Centro storico di Alghero"

The apartment looks like it’s near Hotel Las Tronas - the area is OK but a long walk with young kids - is this the only accommodation you are booking in Sardinia?

Yes, the apartment is beautiful and we don't mind walking 20 minutes or more, if it's scenic and a nice walk. But if we are walking through construction, wobbly roads, or side of the road, then or have to cross a big highway at night, that's another story

I’ll try to summarise our six visits which were mainly with our son between his years of two and ten. We had some really enjoyable times, the beaches are the best in Europe and perfect for younger children. The vibe is quiet and many of the resort areas are sleepy but do get busier in August.

We have covered all the island and the area which far and away stands out is the North East corner. We like Santa Teresa which is laid back and family orientated. Further south part of the Costa Smerelda are some of the most expensive areas in Europe to stay but the beaches are free.

As someone on the other thread pointed out the main archeological sites are Tharros which is huge and in a stunning location , the other is Pula which is much smaller.

The main attraction of Sardinia is the stunning coastal setting - not just the beaches but the cliffs and bays.

Alghero is a nice enough town but I wouldn’t automatically suggest it as a place to stay it’s quiet small - it’s a good day out. I really would consider a base in the North East - which allows day trips to many places.

if you are flying into and out of Olbia - I really don’t see the point in travelling a third of the way across the island and back just to stay in Alghero - that’s nearly two days of your stay gone just in travelling.

In Alghero, we stayed in an airbnb at Via Ezio Vanoni. It is in the same direction you are looking at but about 10 minutes closer (by foot). We do not recall any construction, and headed straight to the shore and walked along the water to Centro storico.
