Sardinia

We want to join our daughter and son-in-law who have just booked to go to Porto Sosalinos (camping ) in the Gulf of Orosei in the middle of September. We have never been to Sardinia and would like to go but I can't see that we'll camp. The site has cottages but you need to take your own bedding (not easy on a plane) and they are relatively expensive for what they are.
We'll hire a car (and our daughter will probably hire one too). We don't have to be with them all day and every day but would like to see enough of them to justify having gone. They may spend a lot of time walking high up (they have just returned from a week walking out of Leh in Ladakh) .
We like good weather, towns and villages of character, good food (not Cordon Bleu), swimming in the sea or a pool, easy walking and views.
Where could we stay-possibly two or three places within reach of the campsite so we could meet up and spend time together? We may also spend extra time there after they go- possibly to see far-flung parts of the island.
We would happily pay £100 p.n.-more if it had particular character. We are not interested in resorts, all-inclusives or 5 star places.
Until they told us about this we were going to revisit Puglia where we spent a great holiday last September.
Thanks.

On the expensive side might be Su Gologone in Oliena, though by september it should be cheaper, or the big hotel on the R as you go down to Golfo di Orosei, or Hotel Club Cala Ginepro. Last 2 are "villaggi" but out of main Italy holiday season could be nice. We have stayed at all these places, the second two for the week-long Giro of Sardinia cycling race. Or find a hotel in Oliena, there we send people to the B&B Sos Piches (we run a guesthouse in Lotzorai for people who walk, climb, bike...if they want a 2-centre holiday we often suggest Oliena/Sos piches for around €30 pppn).
Say Hi to Enzo and Stefano at Sos Alinos

Thank you for answering. I'd stopped looking at this because it didn't seem to have prompted a response.
We have now booked our flights in and out of Olbia. We are going to spend a week touring and hopefully seeing most of the island except for the Orosei area. Then we'll spend four days "en famille".
Would you be able to suggest three or maybe four well-placed locations (and nice accomodation) which would allow for seeing what there is to see? We like to be able to walk to restaurants at night but need quiet hotels.
Many thanks

"We are going to spend a week touring and hopefully seeing most of the island except for the Orosei area. Then we'll spend four days "en famille"." Sardinia is bigger than Wales, with higher mountains, and poorer roads. We advise our guests not to try and see the whole island, but rather to concentrate on one area if they only have a week. Honestly at this point I'd recommend you buy a guidebook like the Lonely Planet guide and plan the rest of your trip, and try not to spend too much time in the car. If I had to make a suggestion, I'd say go to the SW Masua/Buggeru coastline, visiting the museums at Buggeru (first strike in Italy and birth of organised labour movement) and Porto Flavia as well as spending time in Cagliari. ciao Peter
