Sarajevo private guide

We are interested in hiring a private guide, for a day, to help us understand important sights, and give us insight into how history, recent and long ago, has effected current life. We'd appreciate hearing your recommendations. Thank you.

There are several walking tours in the city. One of them is located in old town Bascarsija once you get onto the cobblestone pavement. They're located on the right if you're walking away from Ferhadija (the pedestrian street with all the shops). I suggest going with one of those, unless you want to go outside of Sarajevo, maybe up to the Serb front lines or Olympic mountain.

Sarajevo is so small and easily-navigable that with a map and walking guide booklet you could certainly cover everything on your own in one day.

The tourist information office runs some tours, so you might check with them. I did a half-day tour that included the Tunel as well as other sites associated with the siege of Sarajevo. The guides were both personally affected by the war (one served in the defense of the city; the other escaped with his mother, leaving his father behind to fight. They have chosen to lead these tours as a way to promote peace. I found it very well done and very informative. Hope that helps!

The Tourist Office runs several tours a day, both out to the Tunnel Museum and walking tours of the city.

However there are several private tour guides - some here...

Wow, thanks for your comments and recommendations. It sounds like we can join very good public tours. We prefer them to private anyway. We just want to get personal insights as well as the general perspectives provided to tourists. Thank you.
