amsdon,
That was a great explanation! Would love to try that flan!

Flame123,
As Nikki says, during the week, at Casa Patas, Mon.-Thurs., there's still only one show, which begins at
10:30, so if that's more convenient for you, choose it.
Only on Fri./Sat. are there two shows, the first at 9 and the second at midnight.
No shows on Sundays.

For anyone in Madrid on NYE, the above-mentioned "tablaos" have scheduled performances. At Casa Patas it begins at 8 pm.
And until Jan. 6, Antonio Canales will be performing in "Bernarda Alba" at the Teatro de Madrid.

Maribel the flan is good and really easy my mom's recipe & it's here in the lounge somewhere a couple of times. But I wish I had my grandmothers recipe for her various cookies.....

I would highly recommend the Antonio Canales performace of Bernada Alba Maribel mentions.
Ah to be in Spain right now!

I am so excited with all the links and videos you both sent, that I want to be there now already. They all sound and look wonderful and I can't wait to be there. A million thanks again.

Hi all,
Maribel, Nikki, Amsdon and everyone who offered their help, thanks again for all the info. Please do keep an eye out for Sara B or any other great performer and if you can email me the info or post it here I would be so very grateful. My email is [email protected].

Thanks again

I am getting greedy, can I ask a bullfighting question while you are all here?
I just checked the websites mentioned in Maribel's guide and the only one that I can make sense of and found user friendly is http://www.bullfightticketsmadrid.com/
my questions are
1-does this site charge a hefty fee as opposed to taquillatorros.com which as I understand is the las Ventas sales website.
2-I am surprised that most of the sombre seats are almost sold out for the 2 sundays that I am interested in in April. So, if I purchase my tickets now to avoid dissappointment, how can I have them delivered. Can I pick them up on the day at the bullring?
3-Is the weather in April convenient for Sol seats, how long does the bullfight last? the fights are at 18:00, is the sun still very hot by then?

Thanks very much

Good idea that way the bull fighting experts can answer. Look for Robert to give good info on that.

Hello,

If you are going to Madrid this spring, I would strongly recommend the up-and-coming bailaora Rocío Molina and her company's latest performance "Oro viejo" on the new Teatro del Canal on the 25th of May.

Molina was awarded the prize as best female flamenco dancer in 2007 by a panel of 56 Spanish critics, and I would not be surprised if she is about to repeat for 2008. "Oro viejo" premiered at the prestigious Bienal in Sevilla last autumn. The public went wild - I was there - and she won the Press Best Dancer award.

"Oro viejo" will be staged as part of the "Suma Flamenca" festival in Madrid (on the 25th of May). Watch out on www.sumaflamenca.com or on www.deflamenco.com for programme and tickets. Last year the show schedule (some forty performances from mid-May to mid-June) was announced in the beginning of April.

"Oro viejo" is also playing in London at Sadler's Wells on the 17th of March: http://www.sadlerswells.com/show/Rocio-Molina

Thanks for the heads up. That's a great recommendation. Hope to catch it in June!

lol,
I think you're planning your trip for April, correct? If so, look for the schedule soon for the annual April "Madrid en Danza-International Dance Festival", which will be held in various venues in and around Madrid.

It's an annual event that attracts numerous prestigious dance companies from all over the world, encompassing a full range of dance styles, from classical to avant-garde to flamenco to flamenco-oriental.

Dates: (4/07/2009 - 4/29/2009). Pending confirmation.

The schedule should be posted soon on
www.madrid.org

Here's the schedule from April, '08 to give you an idea of what you can see.

Wow I love coming home for a very fast lunch and find this info thank you. I also love love Rocio. And contrary to how it may appear I am actually very picky as to my flamenco likes & dislikes and very opinionated. These are great artists mentioned here, see them if you can.

lol,
If you're still out there and still planning a spring trip to Spain, in addition to Rocío Molina and the Sumaflamenca festival in May, in April here are two more flamenco stars who will be performing in Madrid-

María Pagés will present her show "Autorretrato" (Self portrait) from March 19-April 12 at the Teatro Español on Calle Príncipe with performances from Tues.-Sun.

Joaquín Cortés, flamenco-fusion superstar, will be presenting his show, Calé, Historias de Joaquiín, from April 1-5 at the Teatro Compac on the Gran Vía.

May I tag on with a related question of my own?

I see that it's about 30-35 euros for shows at smaller venues like Las Carboneras and Casa Patas. How much is the show (no dinner) at Corral de la Moreria? Does it vary depending on who's performing?

Thanks amsdon.

I'll figure about 80 euro or so for planning purposes. I've been reading through old posts (many of them yours!) and watched some clips on youtube- and it seems to me the dancing at Corral de la Moreria is top notch.

I'd love to see 2-3 shows, perhaps one night at Corral de la Moreria and one night at either Casa Patas or Las Carboneras. I'm thinking of a week in Madrid for next winter and I'll have to watch my budget carefully, but this is something I'd gladly splurge on.

The show WITHOUT dinner at El Corral de la Morería is 37 euros. They are selling tickets on atrapalo.com, the discount ticket site, for 18.50, but the site is in Spanish. With the dinner (which I would personally skip), the price goes up to 85 euros p.p.

I just checked the night we may go, 3/27, and the admission charge is 39 euros. Sometimes iit's 36, 37 or 39, depending on the day of the week. And the atrapalo.com discounts vary-for 3/27 they give only a 10% discount.

Apres_Londee please report back to us re your experiences ok?

Maribel I saw that they still have the Feb sched up, who will be there in March as guest artist? Hopefully Inmaculada Ortega still...

I will report back after seeing the Farrucos Wednesday at UCLA! But frankly I am not as spellbound by the pretty boys of that dynasty as others ...they need to dance well for me...

I also appreciate the tips about Atrapalo.com. Great price.

Hi amsdon,
I'm eager to read your report! At least Farruquito is staying out of jail! Hope he dances well.

I believe that in March the guest artists are Raquel Ortega and Miguel Téllez.
