Sao Miguel in November

Looking for recommendations on where to stay and how to break up one week in Sao Miguel in beginning of November as we're not too keen about staying in PD for the whole week. We are interested in outdoor activities, culture and of course the food and beverages. Also, I'm reading weather in November is hit or miss. Should I have second thoughts about booking? Thanks.

The weather is always hit or miss - very changeable. We've spent a lot of time in the Azores but only in summer when the flowers are in profusion.
