Last October my husband and I spent 2 and a half days on Santorini. Since it was October and a little windy, we ended up taking an island tour that included a stop at the excavations of Ankotiri which were fascinating, a visit to one of the local wineries, a monestary and a black sand beach for lunch and a swim. It was a perfect way to see everything we wanted to see sights wise, in a short time.
We did swim and go into the jacuzzi of our hotel, but again it was not blazing hot. We spent several hours our first night shopping in Fira and went out for wonderful dinners at an Italian restaurant called Archepelego...(sp?) also in Fira..we still managed to catch the amazing sunset both nights from our private balcony at the Loucas hotel. Also since I like to get up early I enjoyed a sunrise jog/walk between Fira and Oia along the Caldera rim.
We never once felt rushed and met some terrific people. We could have spent one more day there and if we had we would have taken a boat ride out to the islands of the Caldera for a swim. Although we would have enjoyed one more day the two days felt fine for us. Since October is not a lounge around the pool for days on end type of month, we didn't feel that we didnt' experience the island fully. I would highly recommend taking the island tour.
