Santorini, Paros/Ios

Jump to last reply

We will be travelling to Greece at the end of August (26- 10 September)
We will land in Athens and spend a night there. Then we are thinking of going to Santorini, Paros and Ios. Will 3 days in each be enough? Or is this too little time? if one of the islands had to be eliminated which would it be?

we are two couples who will be looking for a balance in chill and party

You've picked a good time to go to the Greek Islands! Are Aug 26th and Sep 10th days of travel to and from Greece? Will you spend at least a couple of days in Athens at the end of the trip?

Were it me I would fly directly to Santorini upon arrival rather than the first night in Athens. That will save you checking in and out of a hotel for one night and travelling back to the airport or ferry port the next morning. It takes just as long to travel into central Athens from the airport as to fly to Santorini (about 45 minutes).

Three days on each island is the minimum time I would spend, but remember that to get three full days you will need to stay four nights. Everyone has their favourite island, and mine is Paros (or more specifically its next door neighbour Antiparos).

If you are young couples you may enjoy the party atmosphere of Ios. The scenery on Santorini is stunning. Ios and Paros have great sandy beaches. Paros and Antiparos, IMO, are better for chilling, especially from the beginning of September.

Every day you change location is mostly lost to checking in and out of hotels, transfer to the port, and travel time, so don't count them as days on an island. If you decide to eliminate one island you will gain a day on the ground, but which to cut depends upon your own interests.
