Santorini open during Spring Break

Looking around for a cool place to take tween for Spring Break and highly considering Greece. I heard that Santorni is closed during American Spring Break (last week of March/first week of April). Is this true? I heard similar for Amalfi Coast towns but saw that there were plenty of shops and restaurants open when we went. Please advise. Thanks.

Can't imagine Santorini being closed at Easter. Do note that Orthodox Easter is 8th April next year

Santorini is never closed, and there is always something open even off-season. You will be there during Orthodox Easter week when Greeks will be coming to the island to celebrate. Easter festivities begin before Easter itself, with each island having its own customs: http://www.visitgreece.gr/en/religion/easter_in_greece

Good Friday celebrations at the village of Pyrgos on Santorini are spectacular:

Santorini doesn't attract many Greeks for Easter.. ( while Mykonos does). The season in Santorini starts in May, but we are talking about an island where people are living, so it doesn't shut down during off season, there is just less to do....

The weather should be warm enough during the day, and most likely sunny too, and Easter is being celebrated more than Christmas in Greece, it will be interesting to be in the middle of the Easter celebrations :)

Seriously? A place where people actually live and work 5,000 miles away from where Americans frolic is closed? It's not a theme park, it's a real, live place where people actually live. It doesn't open and close like Disneyland. And it certainly doesn't operate on the basis of American holiday schedules. At the end of March the schedules of things available to do and see may be limited, but it has nothing to do with Spring Break in America.

StCirc, the OP was merely asking whether Santorini would be "closed" during the time their American children would be available to travel. That was a reasonable question, because on the Greek islands many shops, hotels, and restaurants close up during off-season. Did you really think the OP was connecting Santorini with the American spring break? That thought never entered my mind.
