Santorini in April

I am considering 2 weeks in Santorini in the middle of April. Does anyone know if the weather will be beach weather?

We went to Santorini this year at the end of April/beginning of May. Temps were nice - low to mid 70s during day and cooler at night (light jacket and/or sweater). We sunbathed a bit on our terrace.

I would think that the middle two weeks of April will be slightly cooler. You can check historical temps at www.wunderground.com.

BUT...I think most people here will say if you're looking for a beach-y vacation, Santorini would definitely not top their list!

Thanks for the info. Any suggestions for a beachy-vacation during this time of year besides Hawaii or the Carribean?

Don't want to totally steer you away from Santorini, because it is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. You have 2 weeks, so you have plenty of time to combine with another island.

Here's an additional thread on Greek beaches that you might find helpful:

And someone there recommends Cyprus for beaches.

As most places, spring weather in the Cyclades is unpredictable. I have been there in a chilly mid-May, and told by the locals how warm it was the month before. Unfortunately it could be just the opposite, but you may be lucky.

Chances are high temperatures will be in the 60s, and the water too cold to swim unless you like it very bracing. At least there are plenty of other things to do on Santorini, which isn't noted for its beaches anyway.

Travel2006, for your second question: Mexico, Malaysia, Thailand, Seychelles...

April is sort of a transition month when it comes to the weather. When I was there in April the days were mostly sunny but there was wind and some overcast days, and the water was too chilly for swimming, especially when the wind was up. That doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the spectacular views, lazing on your hotel balcony overlooking the caldera above the electric blue sea.

Other possibilities: Cook Islands, Bali, Thailand, Canary islands, Seychelle Islands.
