santorini hotels

We are planning on going to Santorini at the beginning of oct. Has anyone stayed at the Volcano hotel or the Atlantis. Thanks. I have been reading the posts and they are great.

I stayed at the Atlantis in 1971 and it was wonderful. I returned in 1994 and found that it had gotten a little worn around the edges. Perhaps they've refurbished since then. And the views onto the caldera are magnificent.

P.S. If you take the bus up from the regular fery stop (not the cruise ship stop), it lets you off within a few hundred yards of the Atlantis.

That should, of course, be "ferry."

I havent stayed at either of those, but during my work as a guide on the island (doing hiking and wine tours) I have stayed at various mid to top end places. These include, in Firostefani (which is a bit quieter and more panoramic than Fira): Andromeda (nice, good value), Chromata (too designy for my taste), On the Rocks (OK but service not always good). And in Oia: Esperas* (excellent), Perivolas* (superb but crazily expensive), Chelidonia (good and excellent value).
You can see my reviews of those with a * at:

Good luck!

I agree with Michael.d with suggestions and observations.

Atlantis is very central etc. but a bit worn out though still clean and still central too.

I'll be staying at Chromata for a week in early September and hope to have a trip report posted by mid-month.
I like "designy" though so that's fine.
