Santorini hotel help!

We're planning to spend 3 nights in Santorini in September, and there are so many hotels to choose from, I don't even know where to start!

Here's what we are looking for:
*A good location...any opinions as to whether we should stay in Oia, Fira, or Imerovigli? With such little time, we plan to be fairly active during our stay and would like to be within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and the beach (not sure if this last one is feasible in Santorini or not).

* An infinity pool (or at least a pool directly on the cliff edge)

*A boutique hotel with very good service (preferably under 25 rooms)

*Private balcony/terrace with view of the water

*Preferably under $400/night

My husband is also interested in finding out whether any Santorini hotels have rooms with private pools/hot tubs (this is not a must, just something we are thinking about).

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated--thanks!

This may not be quite the luxury experience you are looking for, but frankly at less than 300 euro per night, I'm not sure you can expect the luxurious -- or the infinity pool type places. I highly recommend the Hotel Loukas which is in Fira. I know many people suggest staying in Oia -- which is away from the "noise" -- but I suspect most of those people have never stayed at a hotel like the Loukas where you are aimed out to the sea and would never even know there is a town behind you while you sit on your private terrace. Yet, just a few steps out your door is a wonderful selection of restaurants and bars or nightspots. It also has a small pool -- or do you mean a private one for each "villa"?

But no, the hotels in the main towns of Oia or Fira are not walking distance to the beach which is the other side of the island.

I recommend Esperas Traditional Houses in Oia. Just spent four amazing nights there 2 weeks back. Great location, very quiet, beautiful views of the sunset - easy access to bus to get to Fira town.

I believe we paid 235 Euro/night with 10% discount if you pay in cash. Hope this helps!

Check out the Fanari Villas in Oia. Have stayed there twice (including last month) and it's great and fits most of your requirements. They also have a great restaurant open for dinner with amazing sunset views. We love this hotel!

Hi travelgirlatl,

Definately stay in Oia. Have you checked out Ikies? The suites with private hot tubs are out of your price range in September but the other rooms aren't. It's a beautiful small hotel with only 11 rooms. Views are stunning (as they are just about anywhere with a caldera view) and it's in a quiet area just at the beginning of Oia - maybe 10 minutes walk to the village. They have a small pool which was seldon used when we were there. If you had one of the rooms right behind the pool I bet you'd have it to yourself. www.ikies.com

We were there in May and stayed in the Antiquarian's suite. Here's a link to some of our photos http://janaturner.smugmug.com/gallery/3012853#P-3-15
This link takes you to page three and the Oia photos start at the bottom.

Check out Tripadvisor too. Ikies get rave reviews for service.

You'll love Santorini!

Please check out Pegasus Suites.

It is in Imerovigli and the view of the caldera and the new volcano island is fantastic. It is between Fira and Oia and at at the highest point. It is very quiet and serene. The staff was excellent.
I stayed there last September, my first trip to Greece, and was very pleased. They have a pool, but it is not an Infinity Pool. Other than that, if meets what you you are looking for.
