Santorini Hotel - opinions please

Has anyone stayed at the Chromata on Santorini recently?
There are mostly good reviews on Trip Advisor but the most recent one isn't great. Just looking for some more opinions. We'll be going there after a long hard slog at the Olympics and we want to stay somewhere good.
We currently have a reservation at Chromata but I'm wondering if we should switch to somewhere else.
Thanks!

Hi,
I have not stayed there, but have read positive comments. Someone on this site reported great things about this hotel. Do a search and see what comes up. Have fun. What a wonderful trip.

Chromata where I stayed twice before the renovationis one of the best choices :

-Imerovigli is the most convenient location -between Fira(walking distance 15 minutes) and Oia-for the parking facilities and for the caldera view .

-the hotel was renovated and its amenities upgraded last year, transforming it to a 'Hip' boutique hotel

-the architecture has been awarded by some architectural international institutions(some cave rooms have their own private veranda and jaccuzi) and the swimming pool is simply 'dramatic' .

- The staff is efficient and friendly, and can advise you for restaurants(the owners are well connected...) and seclude beaches

The owners of Chromata have recently opened a new spa hotel the Notos therme spa in Vlyhada -www.snotos.com- and I suppose you could arrange to use the facilities of this sister property.

My fav place in Santorini was Ia... it was a lot quieter than Fira. Best place to stay in Ia is Kaitikes (its a small luxury hotel w/awesome views) but it is a bit pricey. Have a good time!

We stayed there in September - it was very nice. We liked the location - walking distance to Fira and the bus stop was a 2 minute walk (you can catch the bus to Oia or Fira), the staff was excellent and the view was perfect. It's got the traditional architecture along with it's own unique style. There are a few small markets right across the street - we bought snacks and drinks there before our daily treks. The breakfast was very good also. A minor complaint - the pool is nice, but very small and there is practically no lounge space.

The only problem we had there was the room we were given the first night - it was a studio, which was fine, but it was literally underneath the pool...our ceiling was the floor to the pool - so we heard splashing, etc. And the door was pretty much all window with some sheer blinds and the bed was situated directly in front of the door. Not exactly honeymoon material! So, we asked to be moved and they upgraded us to a suite for the rest of our stay for no charge. They were very accomodating and we loved the second room.

If you'd like to know anything else, let me know. You'll love Santorini!

My husband and I stayed at the Astra Apartments in Imerovigli the first few nights of our honeymoon in June 2002, and it was the the best place we have ever stayed. All rooms are perched on the cliffside and have thier own balcony overlooking the caldera, where breakfast is served each morning. The owner, George, is wonderful and will arrange ANYTHING for you. They have a website, www.astra.gr.

Wow, I just checked it and the prices have really gone up. (Olympics, perhaps?) Anyway, if it fits into your budget, I highly recommend it.

Also, I agree with mzani- Imerovigli is a great location. The walk to Fira is beautiful.
