Santorini - Akrotiri - Open yet???
 

Does anyone know whether Akrotiri has been re-opened to visitors? We are planning on being on Santorini in late September and Akrotiri is at the top of the list of things to do.

I don't think so, at least not according to these websites. I'm glad I got a chance to see it before it closed.

No, Akrotiri is still closed. Supposedly the plan is to have the new roof covering completed sometime in 2011. I'll believe it when I see it!

We were in Santorini in May and were told it will re-open next year - again, I wouldn't hold my breath! We were lucky enough to be able to visit it when we were last there 10 years ago. There is an interesting museum in Fira town with some of the artifacts and wall paintings from the site, which is worth a visit.

Anyone know if Akrotiri will be open by summer 2012?
Last time we were there about7 years ago they were out on strike and we were only there for a day.

Well, there have been rumours about it reopening for the last two or three years. One year those rumours will be true. ;-)

in late Sept. it was still closed and there didn't seem to be any info on it opening any time soon.
