Santorini- Aressana, Sun Rock or Atlantis

We're going to be in Santorini for our honeymoon for 2 nights in early Oct. We wanted to stay at Espera but they're booked. Can you give a recommendation on Aressana, Sun Rock or Atlantis? I've searched the boards and there isn't much on Aressana. Thanks.

Hey...can't comment on those properties that you listed...but I stayed at the Astra Apartments (in Imirovigli..sp?) 3 years ago & found it to be lovely & romantic. My sister eloped & was married on Santorini...she & her husband stayed at the hotel Katikies in Oia...which was more pricey than mine...but absolutely wonderful. Good luck!

We stayed at the Atlantis Villas in Sept. 1999. I liked the hotel -- nice breakfasts overlooking the breathtaking view, gorgeous pool, friendly service. However -- sorry to say -- I was not a huge fan of the island. All of the hotels in Oia are cut into the side of a huge cliff, and so they are cave-like and damp. I checked out other hotels and did not like anything better than Atlantis, so it's just a problem I have with the area itself. Sorry! I really did enjoy going to the town at the bottom of the steps at the water's edge (Ammoudi?) -- the fish is so fresh -- they clean it right in front of you, and then plop it on the grill. The hike back up is tough, though!

I might add that I know I'm in the minority. I liked Crete and all of the places we visited in Italy better -- especially Capri -- now THAT is heaven on earth!

Oh! Just thought of something else -- had a great meal at a restaurant in Oia called 1800 -- one of the best meals we had over 10 days in Greece. Nice wines, delicious seafood dishes. Also loved the red sand beach on the island.

We stayed at a great family owned B&B type place. Argonaftes. It isn't a fancy hotel but nice, clean, newish place built on top of their home which are typically caves built into the cliffs on Santorini. The owners are very friendly offering free ice coffee frappes and even gave us a tour of their "cave" and offered us some home made wine. The number is 0286-22055. It is in Firostefani. They will pick you up from the Ferry as well. Highly recommend unless you want to stay at a 4 or 5 star hotel type place. Would highly recommend Sergiani for dinner on the cliffs of Santorini. Get there before the sun goes down - the view is beautiful and the fog that rolls in if you are lucky is amazing.

I stayed at Hotel Aressana in May. It was a beautiful hotel. Every room has a balcony. It's not right on the cliff, so the view isn't quite as impressive, but it's right off the main walkways of Fira

I would recommend Fanari Villas in Oia. Perfect location, quiet, well run.

Hi Evelyn,
- stayed at Atlantis villas in Oia there in 6-00
- large room, w/kitchenette and large private terrace
- Room does feel damp after awhile
- service was fine

We prefered the Villa Vedema...very luxurious (for Santorini standards) but no Caldera view. The service was 1st class and might make for a better honeymoon spot. You can always get your caldera view fix during dinner and strolls inFira and Oia and driving around the island.

Hope this info helps. You may want to look into the weather for October and see if many places are still open. I was under the impression that they close up for a large part of the year.
