Santander, and Oviedo Hotels

Looking for a nice Hotel, in Santander
and another one in Oviedo.
We are traveling through the North of Spain,
and have already booked the Paradores
in Ribadeo, A Coruña ( El Ferrol), and
Pontevedra.
Also in Valladolid, that its our last stop
before Macrid.
Thanks.

There are Paradores in Santillana del mar (2) in Fuente Dé (Picos de Europa) and in Limpias (just south of Laredo).
But if you want to stay in Santander, there are several nice (3-star) Hotels on the beachfront and on Avda. de los Hotels (Sardinero playa).

If you're doing the Parador thing you should plan at least 1-night at Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos (adjacent to the Basilica) in Santriago de Compostela. Also, I hope the one you booked in Pontevedra is el Castillo del Conde de Gondomar in Baiona. That's where Columbus made landfall when he returned from his 1st Voyage of Discovery.

Hi,

Last summer we stayed at Hotel de la Reconquista in Oviedo. Excellent hotel in the center of town. They had a special rate in their website that covered full breakfast and it was very reasonable.
In Santander we stayed at Hotel Hoyuela in Sardinero Beach. Their rates were pretty high at the time because I went on high season so I thought that it was overpriced. If you are going off season the prices would be more reasonable. It's a 4 star hotel with a great location. In Santander you should stay in Sardinero Beach.

of how to look for it.
Thanks

Sorry, Don't know much about Palacio del Mar other than it's in the Sardinero beach area but somewhat removed. I remember somebody telling me that it sort of sits off by itself. I didn't see it when I was in Santander last year.Did you check the Hoyuela, Rhin or Santemar? These are pretty close to the beach.
The price you got for the Pontevedra parador is very good. When are you going on your trip?

I canceled the Palacio del Mar hotel
and booked at the "Bahia" hotel that
belongs to Sardinerogroup. The rates
are 72 euro for a standard.
We are leaving the 27 of March, and
staying 3 days in Madrid, at the
Tryp Ambassador hotel, and renting
a car, our first stop is Burgos,
then Santander,Picos, Oviedo, Ribadeo, A
Coruña, Pontevedra, Valladolid and
Madrid.
The only reservation pending is the
one in Valladolid.

We stayed in town at the Hotel Ciudad de Santander in an incredible suite for around $120 at that time. About half hour walk to the Sardinero beach area. I think it is better to be near the city area to see the city and not just the beach.

MNPages,

I wish you good luck with your trip. I really liked Oviedo, Picos de Europa( try to go to Lakes Enol and Ercina and Covadonga) and Santander when I visited last year. I'm very interested in hearing your opinion regarding the places you will be visisting upon your return. I might be going again to Northern Spain this summer to visit my son who will be studying spanish there.

Hi Thomas,

Do you remember if there were good restaurants ( not fancy) near the Hotel Ciudad de Santander? I might be visiting Santander again this summer to visit my son and the hotels by Sardinero are just too expensive. I'm looking at other options and it looks like this hotel might work . The Bahia also looks nice.

Hi Mnpages,

I found my map of Santander and found the Bahia. It's right next to the Cathedral and in front of the port. I remember walking by it since I went by the cathedral, although I don't remember the Bahia building but must have seen it. It's a couple of blocks from the train and bus station. Actually I was walking from the bus station back to sardinero when I went by it. I remember it being a loooong walk to Sardinero, over half an hour but beautiful. I don't know if this is the "city center" but I would call it a central location.
