Santander
Going to Santander in May planning to stay one month. Any suggestions where to stay? Local restaurants? Local transportation?
|
We spent only 6 days in Santander and liked it very much. In the center, there is an area of nice shops and many good restaurants.
The market next to the City Hall is terrific. The beaches are lovely and all around the bay ( miles and miles) Bus service is very good: in town and to other parts of Northern Spain. The city had a feel of a growing and prosperous place. |
Wow, a whole month! Lucky you. I have been to Santander 3 times, but only for 4-5 days at a time. The last two times I stayed at the Hotel Bahia, facing the bay , near the train and bus station. I really liked the location. But since you are planning to stay for a month maybe you will be better off at an apt.?
The area around Playa Sardinero is very nice. Water should be cold but the beach will be beautiful nonetheless. Lots of goods restaurants in Santander. My favorites were in the city center ,many of them near Plaza Cañadío: Meson Rampalay, Bodega Cigaleña, Mesón Goya. When you ask about transportation, are you asking about transport in the city itself or to nearby towns/ cities? |
Thanks Danon. Where did you stay? We are looking for an aparthotel.
|
Thanks Cruiseluv. I am waiting for reply from some extended stay hotels - aparthotels. Regarding transportation we will probably buy Eurail passes and get around by train and buses. The beach area sounds nice, we live in Sarasota FL and are used to warm gulf water so I will not be swimming in the water...just swimming in the culture

Hi,
Is the Eurail pass to travel throughout Europe, not only Santander? If you are looking to travel on rail only from Santander I don't think you need an Eurail pass . You can go many places from Santander by bus. Also by narrow gauge train FEVE www.feve.es |
we stayed in a private home at the edge of town, but I think anywhere near Sardinero wold be lovely. Actually, the bus service in town is so good, it does not matter much where you stay. ( taxis are cheap)
We took a bus to Bilbao and Satillana del Mar . The service was great . The buses run to San Sebastian and other places many times a day. this is the major bus line http://www.alsa.es/portal/site/Alsa As cl said - lucky you! |
