Sant'Antimo Abbey chants

The schedule of the chants are listed during different services. What is the difference between these services? Is one better than another to hear the chant?

Third Mass Terza 9:00, Messa 11:00
Sext (Sesta) 12:45
Nones (Nona) 14:45

As I understand it, Mass (or Messa) is just that - so it would be a lengthier, more complex service than the Sesta or Nona. The Sesta & Nona services last about 15 minutes (we were just there last week, as a matter of fact). You can follow the service with books provided if you pick one up at the beginning of the pews before it begins. Hope this helps...

Hi Norri,

I attended the 9am mass and it was an hour long. Very lovely and relaxing from a non-religious standpoint. Following that service, the abbey was open for "visiting". As I left, the tour buses were rolling in!

Highly recommend going for an actual service, early, stay and enjoy.

Buon viaggio!

norri,

We have attended the 11:00 mass...it is about an hour long and other than the sermon, which is in Italian, all the mass is chanted. It is very beautiful to hear and experience.

Agree that the mass is a wonderful experience.

Thanks for your replies. We will try to make the 9:00, but most likely will have to go to the 11:00.
